And now for my weekly thread.

I was thinking at work about how many diseases/sicknesses that would have trumped older man that we have somehow overcome with a simple shot. We can boast as man about our technology and how far it takes us, however a simple mutant virus that we deem the "common cold" still gets us. Even a similar one known as the flu gets us sometimes kills us and is sometimes good enough to send man into disarray. So what I was thinking is that no matter how far we distance ourself from our good old mother nature she still gets us.

So what do you think escapist, who is the dominant being on this planet, is it the polluting radioactive using resilient man, or is it the good mother who sends sicknesses/diseases, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions and such.

In the end, the earth will outlast us as we inevitably destroy ourselves. Hopefully we can keep from destroying the planet beyond repair before we leave.

I see it differently. We may die off in droves but we still remain the dominant species.
And once we take to space, we will actually have a chance of outlasting Earth.
Although I doubt we would call the people living in 5 billion years still humans.
That said, we just need to survive long enough to spread out over the galaxy.

I was thinking, if we are the dominant species, can we challenge the planet that hosts us? Although we die in droves so do other species, yet we seem to be the only one's capable of potentially(foolishly) challenging our home.

Us spreading across the universe either means we need to adapt to very different environments, find Earth-like planets, or create bio-domes that are similar to suitable human living. I'm thinking the 3rd is most likely.

Hopefully, however if it's us or the planet I think I'd go kamakazie on this planet and make a dent!

Nah in all honesty we will likely die before the earth, but I could see somebody sour grapesing the planet with a lotttttttttttttttttttttttttttt of nukes strategically placed around the world.

Short-term, definitely, although I could imagine terraforming as another option for long-term.

True, but that will be tricky to pull off. As long as we can have food, oxygen, water, and warmth we can survive.

The most likely event of mass human death will come from nuclear war. And if that happens there no war any of us are living, the fallout will pretty much make the world uninhabitable to most forms of live. So I guess my answer to your question is, man kills nature in the course of killing himself.
