Ya know, threatening him isn't helping. Although, that "threatening letter" it showed in magazine cutouts said. "i can haz R18 rating plz? kthxbai"
How can that even be misconstrued as threatening?

I agree with you Silva.

Saying that violent games dont make us violent and then threatening him is sort of hypocrytical dont you think? If we behave and act in a civil matter towards this then he has to scratch that "fact" as he so willingly calls it. I'm not saying sit on your ass and do nothing. I'm saying that if we take civil acton, say, a rally or protest in Canberra (Australias Capital) we could achive our goal of a R18+ rating for our games.

RL Troll! Worse than Jack Thompson. I never thought it possible.
At least Jack Thompson managed to get good things accomplished. Atkinson is doing no such thing.

I say we find the most suave gamer on this site, have him court Atkinson's daughter, go steady for a few months or so to earn her trust, gradually start getting her to experiment, and finally mail him a video of his daughter getting fucked with a 360 controller. Conflict resolution!
Someone go do this. No, seriously, this would be awesome.

Yeah, Atkinson seems like a really huge douche.

Ok i wartched that and I have to say I thought the man was a douche before, but now I'm certain he is.Apparently people can't be out in 2 a.m. (curfew much?)
People actively interact with violence in games.True but is it better to decapitate a NPC in a game or should ,let's say I, should I let the person in question give thought about let's say a history lesson about the Inquisition and let him discover what's the feeling like when he chris browns that old, nagging lady that lives next door.
Because that's what is gonna happen sooner or later.Kids gonna find out they're missing out and try to catch up.
And i have to say the guy in that "GG" interview said "only 50-60" games got refused or w/e.When i give thought only about 20 games worth playing come out a year.So what you're gona leave people in Australia with "Little Big Planet"?!

P.S.
Yahtzee DO something !

So the guy who pick to be the pansy of the world, afraid of the person who eats the pac man energy pill and chomps the scared blue ghost because the player has no morals or feelings towards the electronic spiritless specter being consumed, now wants to try and paint video game players in the same light as biker gangs.

Now not just a biker, but a biker gang member. One who forms bonds, and commits crimes with other bikers. No I don't wish to hear about biker gangs who just ride on the weekends. You are a group of friends, A biker group. A gang is normally a label of criminals.

So people who play a video game, and partake in pretend violence scare him more than someone who maybe even had picked up a hammer and smacked a person in the jaw. In real life, flesh, teeth, bone, spit and blood flying all over is the less than not equal to... someone who hit a fake crabhead zombie in Halflife with a fake crowbar with fake gore?

This guy is in authority how?

So we get him in a room. With a gamer and put a crowbar in the gamers hand and tell the gamer "He thinks your more dangerous than a biker."

See how he fairs.

Then we put him in a room, with a biker. Give the biker a crowbar. And tell the biker "He's more afraid of a nerd that players world of warcraft than you."

See how he fairs.

There's some people I really wish I could meet to stand in front of them and say "you, sir, are an idiot".
That said, I must say I'm actually relieved, I thought the reason why children cried and people ran scared when they saw me was a question of sheer ugliness or bad personal hygiene, and it's just they are scared to death because of my being a gamer.
Whew :)

The guy... sounds like a complete and utter fool. I feel bad for one of my friends who lives in Australia. Not only does he have a ***** of a time playing online games with everyone... He's also about to be told he's not allowed to even play "mature" rated games anymore. @_@

He's an angry, angry, angry old man who has taken this issue far too personally. Yes, it is true, some gamers have sent him death threats, but that doesn't mean he has to stereotype all of them as some sort of evil gang. There are millions upon millions of gamers all around the world - if they all wanted him dead, he would be by now.

He's just taken a few insults too personally. He's engaged in a cold war with gamers - he will not budge, because his pride is on the line.

He's a politician with very thin skin, and an egomaniac to boot.

I know what I'm coming as for Hallowe'en this year. And I would fly out to Australia, just to hear your opinion on my costume Mr Atkinson.

A Gaming Cosplayer. I shall dress up as Sephiroth, with actual Masamune.
i dont think theyl let masamune on the plane sadly full size or not
Ah ha! That is why I hide Masamune in individual parts within 10 different stuffed animals in 5 bags and of course hide the parts in Lead Foil. And if they ask me about the animals, I'll say "I'm a Cosplayer" and they'll let me go!
could work but how are you going to get masumune to atkinson

I'm proposing a serious measure but...

Would 4chan come in use here? We can use them for good!

well, not 4chan directly, but anon has operation freeweb going right now to bring awareness to how stupid the internet filter is.

but face it, gamers are the basic prey for any green anon, what makes you think they would help out such an easy target?
i know people who troll and have no souls or morals is that a good substitute for 4chan
......Gaia does not count.........
I was talking about my brother and his friends but okay

Oh yeah. I think it was the note that was slid under his door at 2 am as well, cause there was a dramatisation (presumably) of it being slid under a door... lolcatz. As threatening as bikers.
EDIT: Sorry. More threatening than bikers.
A thought occurs. He has probably also offended bikers now. Does Atkinson want everyone to hate him?

I drive to him, right at his front door, and pull Masamune out of the back of my rented car! Ah ha!

Okay... coming up with this plan, and the elaborate details seems rather creepy. I'm going to take a mental health check up.
