Well, I would normally avoid this game but since it's Atlus, eh, what the hell, I'll get it. (I love Atlus)

I see.

Well, I have to go right another letter to Atlus, telling them again how they make my gaming life so much better by the day.

InB4 Catherine 3: FES edition.

But seriously, if this is their way of stalling Persona 5, I'm gonna freak out. If not, that's fine.

The game is hardly out and they're already establishing it as a franchise.
Not to mention, didn't they decide not to release it outside of Japan?
Or was it just not in America (which means us in EU gets it harr harr)?
Seems like a good way to piss off people honestly.
Like the article says, it was released two months ago and beat sales expectations. Announcing a franchise isn't unreasonable, to be honest.

As for the localization: A hint was sent to Atlus USA newsletter subscribers in late February, and an official announcement was made on the first of March. Some sites posted that there were "no plans" for a US release, but this was likely a misunderstanding or overreaction.

Besides, Atlus and Atlus USA aren't the same entity. The American branch isn't the one making this announcement.

An EU release would make sense, but if it follows the pattern of the Persona games, you're going to have to wait a few months after the US release. Whether it'll be released over here isn't entirely up to Atlus/Index or Atlus USA either: Just to make it more confusing, that role is usually taken on by someone like Koei, Square-Enix or Ghostlight.

[small]Personally, I'll be importing the PS3 version from the US. I'm impatient and it'll be region-free[/small].

I just hope there aren't any sequel plans right now. An NGP port or an expanded FES-style re-release would be better, as it would leave the main Persona team to work on P5. Supposedly they started work on Catherine during the final stages of P4's development cycle (which would've coincided with the development of both P3P and P1P).

All this means (from what I can tell) is that Catherine won't be one of their one-off titles like Hellnight or Maken X.

Likely none. It has a CERO rating of "C", which puts it on the level of games like Uncharted, Devil May Cry or Ar Tonelico Qoga in terms of content. That's one rating higher than Persona 4, but one lower than Nier or Bayonetta (and nowhere near Fallout: New Vegas or God of War).

The ESRB will probably end up giving it an MA rating anyway, but PEGI and the BBFC will more than likely give it 16 and 15, respectively. From what I can tell, it isn't very explicit.

I'm a persona fanboy, and thus this worries me... Does this mean a longer wait for persona 5 (which would be bad)? or maybe another team will be working on the next Catherine (also potentially bad)? or maybe they are going to alternate (that could work to actually help both franchises, so long as they don't rush the games)? It leaves me with many questions...

I can't say I like the idea of having more than 1 Catherine game, direct or indirect sequel. I'd appreciate novels, anime, and the like, but another game? That doesn't sit too well with me.

Adore Atlus as i do, EUROPEAN RELEASE DATES! I dearly hope they've changed their ways and end up releasing it not too long after the American date, otherwise we may have to wait upwards of 6 months (oh! My sympathy extends to Australia who may well have to wait a month or so longer than us!)

There are SMT/Atlus games that have been out for years now, which thanks to PSN downloads and universal media, I can aquire and play in england. We've had precious few Atlus PS3 games, so i really don't know how they'll deal with it. I'd be satisfied with a playstation store release as long as i can get the game sooner!

So...

IS Catherine actually coming to Europe, or what?

I appreciate this is an American site and all, but what with all the news we've had on Catherine including the anticipation on whether it would be localised for American release, i'd like to know if it's going to see the light of day across the pond. I know i'm not the only European Atlus fan that's on the edge of his seat here - will we get to play Catherine at all? Or will it have to be imported?

Either way, i think i'm glad to see it's going to be a franchise. However, it's detracting from time that should be spent developing Persona 5. I'm still frothing at the mouth for a PS3 Persona title.

I'm really glad to hear this game is getting so much credit. I've held back on importing the Japanese version because Atlus announced an english release but it gets harder to hol back every time I see positive news about it. I wouldn't mind a Sheepman PSP or NGP release, then I can take my sheepmen with me and freak out people everywhere.

This is exactly what I had in mind when I posted this! Currently playing through Prinny 2: Operation Panties and I'm loving every second of it, dood. Seriously though, I really want to know who the hell is crazy enough to steal something off Etna, you DO NOT want to get on the wrong side of a demon girl with an army of exploding, zombie penguin things.
Don't spoil it for me though, I'm going to finish this game if it kill me, or all 1000 of my Prinnys...

It better be released in EU on both formats instead of skipping xbox 360 like other atlus game released in the past.

This is their first HD console game. Skipping the 360 isn't too weird when you're making PS2 games.

Anyway, it depends on what company with a European division wants to publish it. Square-Enix published Persona 4, Koei published Persona 3 and Ghostlight is publishing P3P, so all bets are off.
