Atlus Unearths Persona 2 For Limited Re-release

It turns out the super ultra-limited re-release of the highly rare Persona 2: Eternal Punishment was a little too super ultra-limited.

With the upcoming release of Persona 4 [http://www.atlus.com/persona4/] for PS2 less than a month away, Atlus decided to dig deep within its vaults to dust off the classic PSOne title Persona 2: Eternal Punishment to give fans the opportunity to have another go around with it.

When I started writing the preceding paragraph the game was available in "extremely limited supply" only through Amazon [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004WLZ7?ie=UTF8&tag=atlus-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00004WLZ7] at a reasonable price of $39.99. This included a cool, special bonus disk with an anime trailer for the game and a video interview with its creators. Unfortunately, by the time I had completed it and re-checked Amazon, it was already wiped out.

Assuming these listings [http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00004WLZ7/ref=dp_olp_3] are still reasonably current by the time you read these words, picking up a new copy of the game is going to cost you a cool $175 plus shipping. Used editions are still available through various sellers. The cheapest is $65.

Think Atlus might consider re-re-releasing this JRPG classic and give folks enough breathing room to actually pick up a copy? We'll see.

Glad I still have my original copy.

Also, the part 1 of Persona 2: Innocent Sin, was recently fan translated.

You're probably thinking of the original Persona game. Atlus tried way too hard to make it more palitable to the "dumb American" audience and ended up with something almost intolerable. It still ticks me off a little that they cut out almost half the game's content (the Ice Queen quest) to meet an absurd holiday deadline.

Hell, they didn't cut it out even. They stopped midway through localizing it and removed the access triggers, leaving the all the code for the quest in the game.

On the topic of Persona 2, I'd have been more impressed if they'd brought over Innocent Sin, the first half that was never localized because it had Nazis in it or some such. Of course, bringing over Innocent Sin would be a sign of the apocalypse.

Persona 4 has always been on the PS2, Atlus translating it does not change that.
