"Ladies and gentlemen, I have a grave announcement to make. Incredible as it may seem, strange weather tonight across New South Wales tonight is the vanguard of an invading army from Mars".

Winds eddie across the deserted streets, life all but a distant memory in this hellish post-apocalypse...

So maybe the caption was a bit of hyperbole, but this morning I woke up and really did think for a second that I had been teleported to the Red Planet during my sleep (or perhaps I'd always been there, but my memories had been altered to forget I was a secret agent working for Mars Intelligence)

The less exciting, factual, explanation is that massive winds have lifted topsoil from inland New South Wales and carried it across this great state in a huge, sub-obscuring, visibility denying dust storm. Link for people interested in facts and not my sci-fi dreams [http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/09/23/2693643.htm]

Suffice to say, it looks pretty damn awesome/eerie. I'll be putting up some of my own photos when I got the chance.

But for now, for anyone from elsewhere to where this is happening, feel free to discuss your own freaky natural weather phenomena, and how this dust storm stacks up against them.

For those Aussies affected by it, go ahead and stick up your own pics of this mesmerizing event or tell your own stories.

And for everyone, tell us what you would do if it actually was Mars you had woken up on.

Would you go and report the Adeptus Mechanicus, glory to the Omnissiah?
Grab a hammer and take it on those oppressive EDF pricks?
Perhaps see if you could get some snapshots of Doc Manhattan sulking?
Something else entirely?

That looks pretty cool, it must have mixed up your day quite a bit.

The most we (Florida) ever get here is hot days and even more hot days or hot days with rain.

Damn. That's pretty awesome.

A week or so ago, we had some pretty bad fog here in Illinois, USA; could only see maybe ten feet in front of me for an hour or so. I wandered around in my yard and pretended it was Silent Hill.

Well the weirdest thing ive ever seen here in the Netherlands was the air turning green during a storm. The sky was covered by a thick layer of dark clouds and were actually green. It was also raining cats and dogs.

Less uncommon is the lunar eclipse. When the moon passed through the shadow of the earth, making it look bright red. A sign of ill omen back in medievil times.

Ive also seen incredibly thick fog. It was as if there was a wall of solid grey 2 yards away from me. You couldve seen anything beyond it, it even blocked out street lights.

I'd shit my pants if you wore him too, that'd be quite grotesque

Awesome photos though, shop in some messed up buildings and you've got the next installment of Post Apocalyptic Earth

I would look around in awe, fascinated by my surroundings. Then when I finally realize that I am currently on Mars, I would continue the extremely cool death of first having my blood boil, only to have it freeze afterwards. Mars... Fascinating.

Well written Mr. Shanks.

Wow. That looks really cool, but if it were to happen here (the US) it would mean another dustbowl so the "awesome! the sky's all red" would be tempered by "oh crap, we can't grow food!" or "Arg, I can't breathe, my lungs are full of dust!".

As for what I'd do on mars, I'd go unleash the void dragon from the center of mars, where it was chained by the Emperor and became what the Techpriests refer to as the "machine god". Then all the machines of the Imperium of Man would turn against them and I would just laugh my rear off.

Yeah, I woke up this morning to find my window glowing red like something out of a science-fiction movie. Pretty freaky.

I took this one from the front of my house.
See that blank open space? Yeah that is where a bay used to be :S
