Square Enix announced that two of its upcoming titles will be delayed. The remake of Final Fantasy VII is delayed from March 3 to April 10 while the upcoming Avengers game is bumped from May to September.

Well, hope whatever issues they have get sorted out.

Eh. One is already out and the other killed off them seeing their shitty practice through of splitting a Deus Ex game into 2 to milk the customers with a blatant cliffhanger in an unfinished narrative. I hope the Avengers service project fails, which isn't something to say lightly, but the more successful it is, the more hopeless it is to even bother entertaining the notion of Deus Ex being concluded like it should've been in the first place if they're planning to ride that gravy train all the way to its bitter end. And by merit of it being a live-service, but the Deus Ex part certainly makes it more annoying.

Well at least my wallet is free now. Give me more room to play Resident Evil 3 remake. Plus, the dual release of Bayonetta/Vanquish comes out next month. And it gives me time to finish up some other games anyway.

Wow, they had to put it on the first day of an anime convention I've booked didn't they. Ah well, I've waited long enough, 3 more days won't kill me lol. (there's an Avengers game? XD)

There is. Not part on the MCU tho, despite the quippy Robert-Downey-Jr-but-not-really Iron Man, should you care about that. Also, it's a games as a service affair.

It also features the original Avengers movie roster (sanded off just enough to not have to pay actors royalties for the use of their likeness), which makes it, like. At least 4 years late for the public consciousness?

I think the Avengers game has been rumored for something like 6 or 7 years. If its been in development hell for that long or longer, then the services thing is probably them giving up at making a good game and just shoving out a mediocre one with as much monetization attached as they can get away with in the hopes of recouping enough that Disney doesn't put them on their 'Ignore' list.

Edit: the original roster except for Hawkeye, I guess. Dayum, done dirty there. Especially when you'd think an archer would be relatively simple to develop in comparison to Thor and Ironman.

I was wondering why they look so off, especially Black Widow who just looks...wrong. I figured they got the license then that somehow also comes with the rights to make them look like the movie version. Then again, I'm kinda baffled to this day how a game can be available for 20+ years but somehow all the music tracks have to be relicensed or else they get stripped out of a download/new pressing. Licensing is weird I guess.

Yeah, I was thinking that the other day. There have been like 5 avengers movies at this point, we're pretty much done with the Mainline Avengers arc and they're just now getting the licensed game out? Christ, way to be late to the merchandising/tie-in party. I'd make a joke about putting out an Avatar game but they are new movies coming out soon so I guess that would sound dumb.

It's probably a simple matter of cost. No doubt getting the license to MCU Chris Hemsworth Thor is way pricier than just generic comicbook Thor. Add in Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and maybe Sam Jackson too. That's a lot of expensive faces, probably more so than in 2012 when several of them weren't as big of a name as today.

I'm guessing Square still wants to take advantage of the MCU's cultural force. So they're giving this game some of its trappings, hence why a lot of the visual design looks pretty MCU of course the aforementioned Robert-Downey-Jr-but-not-really Iron Man.

Probably, mostly cuz that game already happened [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Cameron%27s_Avatar:_The_Game]. The same year as the movie even. Didn't set the world on fire tho, so I don't blame you for forgetting it exists.
