AVP Could Get Motion Control

A Rebellion producer said that he could consider updating Alien Vs. Predator [http://www.amazon.com/Aliens-vs-Predator-Xbox-360/dp/B001TOQ8MU/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280177769&sr=1-1] to use the motion control technologies Natal or Arc when they come out this Fall.

The senior producer of Alien Vs. Predator at Rebellion Studios, Dave Brickley, is interested in motion control. Even though his game doesn't come out until February 16, Brickley is already talking about updating his AvP for new technologies, such as the motion control systems from Microsoft or Sony.

Back in September '09, it was announced that Sony games like Little Big Planet and the Resident Evil 5 director's cut would get updates when the company's motion control system would be released. Now that the Arc has been delayed until the Fall, Sony may be trying to get more games and publishers to follow suit. When asked whether AvP was one of those games and if it could be updated to use the motion control system, Brickley said, "Yeah, it certainly could."

"Like any gamer I'm excited about the prospect of adding a new dimension to the medium. The Wii showed it can add something totally different that's not just tacked on," he said. "What do you think, would people like to actually rip out someone's spine with their bare hands?"

Well, Michael Atkinson [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/96802-Atkinson-Says-You-Dont-Need-to-Impale-People] might not...

i'm still getting PC version, but i just may check out the 360 one, too, if the above idea comes to fruition.

As an idea...it's brilliant.

As a reality...I still get jumpy playing the original AvP. I don't think my heart could take motion sensors as well.

As fun as it may sound, I don't fancy trying to jump around the room to make the character do so... Motion control players may have some advantages, but they'll get tired a lot faster than normal gamers, and more likely to make mistakes...
Although... rip someone's spine out... hmmm...

Sure, why not? I wouldn't mind trying it but I think I'd be more likely to stick with the DualShock 3.

As long as its optional i dont mind, im not buying the ARC anyway.

Im not a big fan of motion controlers, maybe the shake the controler to not die is fine, or to work an object, but to have the motion control as part of the movement controls, no way, I cringe at the Motorstorm Motion control

i prefer the good ol' controller, i mean i had a wii for a bit and thought the controls were ok but i so much prefer hacking away at my 360 controller

very much looking forward to avp though, still can't believe i was tricked by what i thought would be a port for the ps2 :(

Motion Controls are fine if you do it right, consider Metroid Prime 3. What needed to be solid and repetative was on buttons, movement, firing, weapon switching. But using the motion controls they gave you quick access to things like the grappling hook. This was really cool, as simple as the implementation was it gave a very visceral feal just being mid firefight and tossing out the grapple hook. I can think of quite a few ways to smoothly work this into FPS and im sure a creative Dev could do more if they tried.

This is a case of, if your gonna do it right Fine, otherwise leave it alone. However since both of these systems are peripherials this leads to the problem of you having to make it optional. Still interesting possibilities, imagine if you could toss grenades in a FPS with a gesture and being able to differentiate between underhand and overhand throws. MP3 is a fine example of actually enriching the game with the motion controls. Granted it was mostly that grappling hook thing, but it was really freakin cool.

Is anyone actually excited about Natal? Does anyone like all these motion sensors?

Some people are.

Personally, I'm not. If I wanted to move around, I wouldn't be playing video games.

You... Don't want to rip someone's spine out?

For the record, I only want to do it if I can do it through the guy's front, while screaming "WHO'S CASUAL NOW, *****!?"

I want a mod that lets you rip out Atkinson's spine with full motion controls.

If this game includes full, or even above and beyond full, support for the Novint Falcon, I will buy one just to play this game.

I got a wii for that stuff, and my Xbox for other kinds of gaming. I would have to say I like Resident Evil 4 better on the Wii using the controller, but that's optional motion controller so it works for both.

I do think motion controllers could be fun in AvP though.
