Azeroth Choppers Unveils Horde and Alliance Bikes, Voting Begins

Voting is now open to determine which bike will become a free, faction-specific in-game World of Warcraft mount.

Blizzard's weekly web series Azeroth Choppers has been building up to the reveal in today's episode. The teams at Paul Jr Designs have completed the two motorcycles, one Alliance and one Horde. One of the World of Warcraft-themed motorcycles will become an in-game mount. To decide the winning bike, Blizzard is calling on the World of Warcraft community to vote [http://us.battle.net/wow/en/choppers] for the best motorcycle. Polls are now open, and voting ends June 2 at noon PST. The winner will be revealed in the eighth and final episode of the web series, which will air on June 5.

The first six episodes showed the design, fabrication, paint, and assembly of the bikes. Sam Didier, Art Director at Blizzard, headed the Horde team, while Chris Metzen, Blizzard Entertainment's Senior Vice President of Story and Franchise Development, lead the Alliance team. Custom motorcycle experts from Paul Jr. Designs fabricated and assembled the bikes. Paul Jr. Designs is the motorcycle design company behind the television series American Chopper.

The winning bike will be reproduced as an in-game mount for World of Warcraft. The mount will be faction-specific and available free to all players in that faction. Now that the bikes are finished, I have to say I'm having a hard time deciding which is the better bike. What do you think? Do you prefer the sleek and noble Alliance bike, or the rough and rugged Horde chopper?

Horde bike is definitely better. Too bad I doubt it's gonna win, given the ratio of Horde:Alliance last time I checked.

Oh Blizzard, you getting that desperate for players/attention?
I hope they auction those things for charity...

And, okay, fine OT: Horde looks way tougher, Alliance *too* sleek.

The forks on both are ugly, I get what they where doing but still, ugly forks are ugly.

Minus the shitty forks, I kinda like both and I wasn't expecting them to go with treads, but then I wasn't paying attention to the show, I assume their was some sort of show for this.

The Alliance one really doesn't fit the Alliance faction at all. Scimitars? Really? Does the Alliance even use Scimitars? And tank tracks? Ah well, I hope that Horde wins, its not like I even play Warcraft anymore, but the Alliance one doesn't look all that great.

Both bikes seem underwhelming. Maybe I need to be a fan of choppers to get into this. I'm liking the series though.

These look more like snow mobiles, rather than motorcycles. I mean seriously, if you're going to make a motorcycle lets ditch the tractor tires and treads.

Why does the Alliance bike have a carapace and scimitars? Do those have anything to do with the Alliance?

In any case I think they're both hideous.

Pretty sure Horde outnumber Alliance these days. At least they did on my server, and from what I understand it's only gotten more and more one sided what with everyone wanting to be part of the whole 'FOR THE HORDE' thing and be the quote unquote 'cool kids'.

Newp. Alliance still outnumbers Horde as a whole. It's been this way since launch, despite some servers having some serious faction imbalances.

As far as the ugly thing goes, the article used some really low-res pictures (which is odd since the Blizzard link has high-def photos... >_>) so that may be it. I thought they were both ugly as sin until I saw the actual pictures/video, although I also have very little taste in most motor vehicles.

My biggest problem is that both seem to have fallen back to old Humans vs Orcs mentality in design. I see some highlights in the Alliance bike that you could stretch to call Gnomish, or Night Elf, but the Horde bike is all Orc. I know they were rushed for time, but I can think of three details on each that would have made them a FACTION bike, instead of a Human/Orc bike.

-False tank cover that looks like a beer keg or filled with viscous green goo.
-Etched pattern of a Naaru, Purple or green inset stones
-Stone hammer instead of chains on horde bike

I will be voting for my faction of choice.

The Alliance bike just looks scrawny, and the scimitars make no sense to me. The thing would have to be made like... twice as wide for it to not look dumb sitting underneath an in game character. Plus, the Horde bike has more tires, so...
TLDR: The Horde bike looks like a tank, the Alliance bike looks like a snowmobile... Horde wins.

Out of curiosity I looked it up and the Alliance/Horde ratio on my old server is 1/3 in Hordes favour, so that's obviously coloured my perception slightly. Overall however you're right, the sides are fairly even but with the ratio being in the end around 1.1/1 in favour of the Alliance.

I still think the bikes are absolutely hideous however.

They both look kind of lame but at least the armor on the Horde bike looks fairly close to the armor in the game. Probably because the Horde team had the games art director in their midst.
