I think this is utterly ridiculous. I mean, They're gonna change it to Rainbow sheep according to a few sources.

THey changed Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree for using the word gay, and I could understand that. I didn't agree with it, but if a lot of children laugh at you as you sing the song it's understandable.

But seeing racism where there is none is a form of racism in it's self. They are meant to be treated as equals, and acting extremely...extremist...over stuff like this is more causing embarrassment than actual black rights (Which I'm all for).

It's the equivalent of seeing a black guy and saying BLACK. HE'S BLACK. BE NICE TO HIM BECAUSE HE'S BLACK, PEOPLE in my opinion...

2ndly the song itself isn?t races but its organs most certainly are I?m a Kition (I?m form St. Kitts look it up) and I can tell you with certainty that my grandparents and my great-grandparents use 2 use it as a joke song to take the piss out of there under paid workers... I hate how everyone everywhere is a little bit racist (including myself) and can't really do anything about it, because everything everywhere is a little bit racist.
Not always "Hey you filthy negro!", but just by recognizing that a black person is different from a white person, or even saying black/white people, that is slightly racist.

This is going to far, I agree, while racism still exists today in large quantities in every nation (yes, "insert your country name here" is racist too, yes "insert your city name here" is racist too, yes "insert a group you are a part of here" has racists in it), ba ba black sheep is not racist, it's implying something about the difference between one sheep from the others using SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY EXISTS!!!!! Playschool, among other children classics, has sung the Rainbow sheep according to a quick google search but I have seen for myself on cBeebies (Whilst babysitting) And Playschool (As an older brother *Eyeroll*) the Humpty Dumpty altered ending.

I've been hearing about this 'change' since I was in school (that's 4 years ago for reference) but I've never heard any serious talk of it outside of people going...well, people doing what YOU are doing. That said. IF it were true, it would be a racist act in and of itself. Southpark did a very good episode about this type of thing that involved a flag with (I think, it was a while ago that I watched it) a black man being hung by a white mob. The school was divided between the students who thought it was bad because the teachers said it was bad because it was racist, and the non-racist kids who just saw a bunch of people hanging another guy. This is a very prevalent form of racism today. Until we see people as people, whether they be black, white, or yellow, our society will be racist. As long as comics are changed so the movie has black characters, just for the sake of having black characters, and ect. . . racism will survive in our society.

i'd love you 2 come down and tell anyone over the age of about 35 that there not offended by a song that was primarily used by my ancestors to mock and belittle them when they were slaves and then very underplayed workers over here in St kitts coss they will probably knock your lights out... trust me its a very big deal over here in the Caribbean still

The thing is, that's not how it was used over here. That's not what it was intended for. It's use as racial put down doesn't make any sense.

Almost anything can be taken from its typical usage and twisted or misused to hurt someone.

Is it a shame racism exists? Sure. Were your ancestors treated unfairly? As far as I can tell. Was this song to blame? Of course not.

To be honest. I don't care that it offends you. If you let yourself be mocked by a nursery rhyme... So I wouldn't go down and tell these vague over 35 people how they feel - I never said it couldn't offend anyone. I'd ask them why they think I should give a shit that they're offended.

my ancestors were the ones doing it I?m descended from the slave owning plantation owners. So I?m not offended by the song but I am ashamed of its origins. To me doing anything that I know might offend someone on purposes is outrageous.
