IGN gave it 9.5 [http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/119/1199705p1.html].
GameTrailers gave it 9.3 [http://www.gametrailers.com/video/review-hd-batman-arkham/722267?]
Gamespot gave it 9.0 [http://au.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/batman-arkham-city/review.html?tag=updates%3Blatest%3Ball%3Btitle%3B2]

Very nice.

It will definitely be added to my collection ASAP... but I already knew that, really.

Feel free to link to any more reviews that pop up.

Edit: Now the question becomes... do I buy the PS3 version or the PC version (DirectX 11 support, $10 cheaper, I'd be using my PS3 controller anyway)? Anyone have any thoughts?
metacritic gave it 98 for ps3 and 95 for xbox.

Why do people rely on the views of others so bloody much?.......
I don't think people are relying on reviews. Just kinda using them as a guide. Hoping it vindicates our feelings. I've seen bad reviews of games I loved. Unless a review outright slaughters the game, it won't prevent me from buying a game I wanted. And a great review won't make me buy a game I didn't care about. I can judge fairly well how good a game is in terms of gameplay from gameplay videos. I saw a video of Wet from an E3 and instantly lost what little interest I had in that game. I didn't need reviews to tell me it was bad.
I enjoyed Wet despite the terrible reviews :)
Thats why I avoid reviews totally now. Theres been a few games that were destroyed in the reviews that I went back to and played and found them to be brilliant
Well, I didn't read any of the Wet reviews. After seeing some gameplay videos, I decided I'd waste my money elsewhere. I only have so much spare money to throw away at vidja gaems after all.

It's cool you enjoyed it, though. We could probably have a whole thread about bad games we enjoyed. Pretty sure there have been. For example, I enjoyed Vanguard Bandits. Google that. Not a very good game and some fairly major plot-holes (especially if you play all three campaigns), but I enjoyed it.
Hell, I even enjoyed Sonic Unleashed........says it all really :p
I really wanted to pick that up, but.... Were-hog? Really? I'm sorry, but there was no way I was playing that game after that. I just wanted a good 2.5D game in which Sonic runs really fast and beats up robots and battles Dr. Robotnik. Why can't I just get that game? It's not even about whether it was fun to play as the were-hog. The idea just didn't sit well with me. And once more, I'm choosy about what I spend my limited extra money on, so that counts as a valid reason for me.

So hyped to play this game...why must the PC release be a month away?
Why must the PC release conflict with Skyrim and Skyward Sword? Why isn't it on Steam yet? My only reason to want it on PC is because it's cheaper and so I don't have to rely on my PS3 working in future years.

As much fun as it is to think everything in this world is corrupt, I find it highly unlikely that they bought out every single major review website.

Okay what is wrong with IGN's video player? It's starts playing the review when the ad is still going...

Also I don't really like reviews that follow the 1-10 scheme, because to me, anything below a 6 just sucks.

I'm going to wait a bit until, like the Assassin's Creed and Mortal Combat collector's editions, this one is going for 20$ off with 5 copies left on shelves in 3 months.

Because people wanna know if the item they plan to buy is worth their money perhaps? Maybe its because they wanna know what others think of a game they enjoyed? Maybe its just because we like hearing what others have to say?

Video games are expensive and no one wants to waste 60 bucks on a brand new game without hearing if its worth it or not.

So our faith in Rocksteady has been rewarded is what you're saying?
Sometimes the truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded. Arkham City is the game Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

/sorry, that was a really lame joke.

OT: I've already preordered an am very excited for this one. Although my excitement is based SOLELY on the trailers and gameplay videos. I'm rather skeptical about anything a company paid to preview has to say about it.
If it's any consolation, I thought it was a great joke. Brought a smile to my face after a long day at work.

Not only have I preordered it, I paid off that preorder a couple weeks ago. Actually of my three preorders, I only owe about $25.
Same. I always pay everything off in full at the first opportunity. I'm horrendously debt-averse. It's gonna suck when the time comes for me to buy me first home lol.

Excuse you? Did Arkham Asylum have to pay for all the great reviews and Game of the Year Awards? No, the game spoke for itself as will this one.

Gamesradar gave it a 10, Official Playstation Mag gave it a 10, OXM 9/10, Eurogamer 9/10, Metro 9/10 and Destructoid 8.5/10...

This has to be a day one purchase and a GOTY contender for sure, sparkling reviews all round with some minor complaints but nothing to gripe about.
Yep this and Skyrim are the only must buy day one games worthy this year.

Wait Destructoid gave it a 8.5? Thats the lowest ive heard, I wonder why... Oh yeah Jim Sterling is the editor of Destructoid, never mind.

Phlakes said:
10/10 from Game Informer. Sounds like this is a solid GotY contender.
Well Game Informer also gave Gears3 a 10/10 so its a mixed bag, but still yes a very strong contender for Game of the Year. I predict B:AC and Skyrim will be battling it out for most GOTY awards by the end of the year.

That is if morons can get their heads out of "Shooter Season 2011"

X-Play gives every high-profile game a 5/5. That barely counts.
I beg your pardon? A 5/5 rating by X-Play is like a blessing from Buddha. A miracle that only comes along so often. I mean I can hardly think of two games that have garnered such praise. They almost never, and I mean never, say a game is "Perfect."

Just checked out the ratings of Arkham City on Metacritic. Average of 95, so far. But I just love how there's the one reviewer who has to say, "Wellll...it's not QUITE as good as the last game was."
Jim Sterling said that, actually...

He said that the 'open world' actually hurt the game because it was still a linear progression of events as far as the story goes. (There aren't like five separate crises that you can take care of in any order for instance)
Jim Sterling is a pretentious(all critics are a little but he takes it to a new level), conceded, d-bag, who wouldnt know a good game from a hole in the ground unless you pointed it out to him.

Anything he says should be taken with a large dose of salt and maybe a little antibiotic so you dont catch something from the utter shit that drips from his mouth.

Seven for me :(
Silly (and non-comprehendable) regional release dates... Hell, even the Aussies get it before the UK.
I know right? We never get anything early or for a good price.

Ah, I see - positive reviews are clearly only paid and untrustworthy if they're for a mainstream game like Call of Duty.

Hypocrisy. Hypocrisy EVERYWHERE.
Somebody likes a game you don't! The publishers are OBVIOUSLY paying reviewers to give the game good reviews, nothing else explains it!

OT: Looks fantastic, gonna pre-order the Collectors Edition today.
I really don't care about Arkham City at all. I'm sure it's a wonderful Batman game. But I'm surprised I am, apparently, the only one to notice how selectively people view reviews. On threads about, say, CoD (disclaimer: I actually don't like that game all that much) people usually dismiss the positive reviews, saying that they must be paid, and can't be trusted. Meanwhile, Batman gets good reviews and everyone gets psyched for it.

Already pre-ordered. I'm very interested to see how the more open world compared with Arkham Asylum's closed world gameplay.
Yes, so am I! Imagine how epic it would be, gliding through the streets, punching baddies with that cool combat system. I want to play this!

Haven't read the IGN one but GameSpot's is horrific- full of hyperbole and minimal detail.

Destructoids is pretty good though.
