Batman Shows Off More of His New Wardrobe for Arkham City

When you're fighting crime in Arkham City, it pays to bring a change of clothes.

For someone who ostensibly spends all his time dispensing justice on the streets of Gotham City, Batman seems to have a surprisingly large amount of time to try out new looks and accessories. Fortunately for gamers, Batman's flirtations with the world of fashion design has given rise to no less than five alternate costumes in Arkham City, including outfits from two animated series, and a graphic novel that isn't actually out yet.

Going from left to right, the alternate Batsuits are as follows: Batman Beyond, The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Earth One, Retro 70s Batman, Batman: The Animated Series, and the default Arkham City skin. For those not up on the Batman multiverse, Batman Beyond is a animated series set decades in the future. Bruce Wayne, who is an old man now, has passed the mantel of the bat, along with high-tech Batsuit capable of flight and invisibility - powers that won't be making it to Arkham City - to a successor.

The Dark Knight Returns is also set in Batman's future, where a middle-aged Bruce Wayne is forced into becoming Batman again as crime in Gotham City gets worse and worse. The Dark Knight Returns was released in 1986, and created by Frank Miller of Sin City and 300 fame. Batman: Earth One takes the opposite route, and is set in Batman's past, telling his origin story in light of the new DC continuity. Earth One is scheduled to come out at some point later this year.

Retro 70's Batman doesn't need much in the way of explanation: it's the suit that Batman wore in the 70s. The Animated Series costume is pretty self-explanatory too, although it's interesting - not to mention rather exciting for fans of show - to see that Rocksteady has tried to make the character model look as much like the show as possible. It's not going to gel particularly well with the rest of Arkham City's art, but you can't have everything.

Gamers can pick up the different costumes by pre-ordering Arkham City from different retailers. Not every costume is going to be available in every country though, so getting them all is going to take some work.

Batman: Arkham City comes out for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 18th.

Me want Batman Beyond Game dammit! Now I'm this much closer. First it was the BB mod for Arkham Asylum, now they have an actual costume!

The thing I like the most is how each costume characterizes the different bulk and weight of the suit. The Batman Beyond suit is very slim and athletic, while the Dark Knight Returns suit is built like a tank.

This is pure awesomesauce. Though I am not sure about Batman Beyond's bulky look.
It actually works. If you watch the first episode of Batman Beyond, it shows what Bruce Wayne looked like wearing the suit. He was still huge in it. Terry's just a teen, so he's skinny.

Hmmm... animated series costume or Batman Beyond costume... do I really have to pick? I guess I COULD wait till they release them as DLC but by then I'll have beaten the game several times. Maybe the collector's edition will have all the costumes.

I see a huge lack of an Adam West costume or does that one get a whole DLC by itself since it will include thing the fancy fighting noise pop up and special animation ? =p

So unless your only interested in skin over all the others, you are gonna have to order more then just one copy to get what you want?

Please tell me thats a joke....surely there will be a dlc option...otherwise this is saddens me to some new lows...

Nifty. I would have liked an AzBats suit, but I guess that wouldn't work (not Bruce).

Really REALLY torn on the Batman Beyond costume. Yes SH is right.. it only looks bulky because thats Bruce Waynes frame in the suit. (apparently its magical, because it fits a full sized man then fits a teen without any alterations?!?)

I love the look and it has me excited, but it feels so out of place. However. I guess my overall answer is to approve considering that if nothing else it helps to perpetuate the Batman Beyond line which is finally starting to make a comeback. Heres hoping.

A slight nitpick but the only suit missing is the film versions (Batman Begin or The Dark Knight), regardless I am content with any of those suits.

Remember the time when extra costumes used to be obtained by unlocking them in the game itself rather then paying extra money for them or being forced to buy the game from a certain store ? yeah , good times.

The Beyond suit just doesn't look right when it's all buff and musclely...
Yeah, I thought so too...but every male in Arkham Asylum was roided out. So maybe it's just a slight alteration on a generic male character model.

I was excited until I saw they were pre-order bonuses. Remember back when cool things like this could be unlocked by doing stuff in the actual game? I miss those days.

Glad to see that this problem has already been talked about. I find this idea interesting, but also terrible.

I don't think it will be to long after the game comes out for codes to show up on ebay for a couple of bucks a piece though.
