Did anyone else go "huh?" when they read Nanjing Massacre? I know I did, it took me a few moments to realise the article was referring to Rape of Nanking, one of the more overlooked, and most horrible events of the second world war.
It happened before the second world war, in 1937.
WRONG! DEAD WRONG!
The second world war started well before Germany invaded Poland, and definitely long before Japan attacked America. It "Officially" gets counted as 1939-1945, but it started well before that, the Japanese invasion of China, which is often folded into the second world war hence why I consider it part of it, is criminally overlooked in history classes around the world, we did almost 3 years of study on the second world war when I was in school, both primary and secondary, and it was only years after I finished school that during my own reading did I come across such final examples of humanity as "The Rape of Nanking" and "Unit 731".
Everyone knows the name of the camps in Europe, all Australian's know the names of the atrocities committed against our troops by the Japanese, but so much is overlooked, the thing that happened in China and Russia were equally evil, but have been left out of a lot of the taught history, my guess is because for decades after the war they were "the enemy".
