Batman's Post-Convergence Identity Leaked

A leaked page from DC's one-shot Divergence comic has revealed the identity of Gotham's new, post-Convergence Batman.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
Back in March, DC Comics and <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/batman>Batman writer <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/scott%20snyder?os=scott+snyder>Scott Snyder revealed that they had <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/140094-Batman-Writer-Promising-Huge-and-Weird-Changes>some "huge" changes in the works for Gotham and its famed Caped Crusader. Among these would be a mechanized battle suit and, seemingly biggest of all, a new willingness to use firearms. Now, however, a leaked page from the DC one-shot Divergence has revealed probably the most shocking change of all: the new Batman will, in fact, be Commissioner James Gordon.

According to the leaked page and other sources, Gordon will be taking up the mantle of the Bat as an officially funded part of the Gotham Police Department. On the page in question, Gordon, now sporting a shaved head and no mustache, is shown suiting up in his new Bat-armor. Speaking to another character he says "I'd like to go on record as saying this is the dumbest idea in the history of Gotham City." He then follows that up with "Now where's my damn Batmobile? Let's go have some fun." We should be finding out what happens to Bruce Wayne when the final issue of Batman's Endgame arc releases this month.

First things first, wow does Commissioner Gordon look weird without a mustache. Moving on to the important stuff though, it would definitely seem that Snyder was telling the truth when he promised to stun readers with how deeply he planned to transform Batman. Just speaking personally, I'm not necessarily sure how I feel about trading Bruce Wayne's Batman for Commissioner Gordon as a gun-toting RoboCop. It doesn't have to be bad, of course, and if anyone's up to the task of making it good, it's Scott Snyder. Readers interested in checking out Divergence in full will be able to grab it on May 2nd as a part of Free Comic Day.

Does this have bad idea written all over it or is it just me.
If you read what Gordon says in the pictured panel, youll find it actually does have it written.

I've enjoyed all of Scott Synders other Batman stories, I'll probably enjoy this.
I kinda like the idea of GCPD actually funding their own Batman it'll be an enjoyable change of pace for awhile open up new possibilities and probably end with Gordon replaced by someone else who goes power mad and requires Bruce to come in and save the day.
though I've got to say Shaved Gordon looks like Norman freakin Osborne, so maybe spider-man will save the day :p

Heh, I always did wonder what it like if Gordon did became Batman/ superhero ever since that BatmanTAS "I am the Night" episode (Gordon told Batman to never give up and mention that if he was younger, he would of wanted to become Batman) but in saying so being inside a mecha suit does not come to my mind!

Also how is this going to worked with the Batman family like Nightwing, Barbara etc? Will Gordon know their identity, partner up while not revealling to each other or just stayed each other ways?

Lastly how the hell will this work with the police force since I find it hard they will cooperate or rather other groups will oppose this ideas.

One more thing! How the hell does he still want a Batmobile while wearing the suit? Does the suit got no flight or enhance speed or does his Batmobile come in bulky side to allow him to sit and steer within it???

That's Jim Gordon? Looks more like Guy Gardner with a shit haircut.

Seriously, what happened to the glasses, mustache, and cool hair? Color me disappointed.

Great, so the hero that's specifically interesting for being a human is getting replaced with Iron Man in this miniseries?

*sigh* Oh well, it's a one-off.

So it's batman, but with Mech armor instead of a Bat Suit, Gordon instead of Wayne, Official instead of vigilante, Guns instead of devices... how is this Batman? If you stuck the bat logo on the Iron Man suit Stark would be more batman than this.

I have to be honest... the internet ruins everything. I don't read these particular comics, but it would be nice if something could be kept a secret for just five minutes. Like.. if I read the book and found out the same day I picked up the issue, that is one thing, but days or even weeks in advance... that ruins it.

I know, I know. Reading about it is optional. But most people have curiosity that cannot be over come. If I cared about Batman at this point, I would be pretty mad about this.

Honestly? With all the alien technology, Super Science Supervillains and heroes, mutated Supervillains and heroes, and crazy magic, the fact that Batman is iconic for just being a "normal guy" is pretty much the only reason why he still is, same with most other "normal guy" superheroes. I know if I were Bruce Wayne I'd be reverse engineering every piece of advanced tech I encountered to build all kinds of Superpowered Bat suits and go get tutored by Doctor Fate or something a LONG time ago.

Having Batman using a Supersuit isn't stupid, in fact it's a very natural progression, it's very obviously mimicking Iron Man in the process that is.

Gordon looks sort of like Norman Osborn, who coincidentally also wore a powered suit and worked as a government sanctioned "hero".

On the one hand, that's one hell of a status quo change, and the knee-jerk inside of me isn't sure how to feel about it. I like Bruce Wayne, especially as written by Scott Snyder.

On the other, these are superhero comics, which means that most significant changes get retconned out of existence or relevance down the line anyway.

Brainstorming session: So, how about Bruce Wayne joins the GCPD working his was to commissioner, Gordon becomes mayor, Alfred runs Wayne Enterprises. Some young boy genius becomes robin, but in the form a powersuit wearing sidekick.

On topic: So where's Bruce?

Sure, it is the natural progression in real life. But taking that path destroys that uniqueness and that sense of humanity.
