Nice article and I really do enjoy Triple Town but I wanted to just chime in and say I hate the "Everybody is a winner" philosophy with the heat of a thousand suns. There really can't be much of a sense of accomplishment if there is no risk of failure.
That sounds like a personal problem rather than an objective truth.
The sense of accomplishment from cooking a great meal isn't that you risked messing it up and making something terrible. It's that it tastes
so good. Likewise, living in a house you made yourself is its own reward, not the knowledge that you could've done a shabby job of it.
A sense of accomplishment comes from accomplishing something; I should think that's obvious, but apparently not. Whether all you accomplish is the creation of a modest village or you manage to build up an imposing empire, you've managed to do something either way. If you
need some risk of failure to feel like you're accomplishing something, chances are you're just not satisfied with whatever it is you're doing on its own merits.
