Colin McRae Rally 3 for rally and Test Drive Unlimited for driving bliss. (Really want an expansion or a new Test Drive game.)

Mashed.

Really, I know that's not the type of driving game you're talking about, but

Forza Motorsport > Gran Turismo

Forza has robust damage modeling, a deep livery editor that allows detailed artwork, great multiplayer and a highly active community even three years after it's release.

Gran Turismo has.... lots of cars....
Interesting, but I always felt the Forza series missed the most important aspect of a driving game, the driving.

This theory came about as I belted round the Nurburgring in a Panoz LMP1 with all the driver aids turned off. Yet the entire lap boiled down to holding down the right trigger and stabbing the stick left/right. Occasionally using full brakes (without letting go of the right trigger) for half a second or so.

Pretty much every track could be negotiated this way. The customisation, community and damage are all better than all the GT games certainly. But none of those are what I play driving games for.

I've always felt GT gets the most basic thing right by making the driving so immersive and difficult, because of that I rate it way above Forza.

I'm a bad driver so Ridge Racer is my favourite racing game. Its actually a good thing to drive sideways! Also PGR on Xbox, because it was the first racing game that made me care about driving well.

Also forgot that you can drift just fine in LFS. All you have to do is modify a few things like tyre pressure and gear ratio.

Just watching this game makes me want to play it more.

If we're talking this generation, then it's between Dirt and Grid. had a lot of fun with both of those. However, any game released after 1995 owes a lot to sega Rally Championship. Still have it for Saturn, and is one of the few games I regularly play more than once a month all the time.

I mentioned GTR Evolution, which is the only SimBin game I've played so far. I believe that I did a Guest Review of it for the site, which will be linked in my profile.
Never saw it, my apologies. ;-)

Agree with you about GPL, people still make great mods for that game which is, iirc, how SimBin started off, wasn't it? ;-\

Grand Turismo 3 or Midnight Club 2. One for formal racing the other for street.

Flatout 3: Ultimate Carnage provided endless hilarious crashes, and the party mode was great fun to play with some friends, so I'll go with that.

Hmm, I think the first racing game I ever played was a motorcycle game on the Sega Master System, the name's escaping me however. It annoyed me, I don't think I EVER finished a race lol.

I think I'm gonna have to go with either the Gran Tourismo series, Wipeout (because, let's face it: Zone is AWESOME), or HydroThunder.

Gran Tourismo (the first) becuase it had my all time favorite car to race ('95 Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo MR).

Otherwise, I just really like the realism as far as the way cars move. Need For Speed bugs me because the vehicles just don't MOVE quite right.

Hm... Full Auto 2 anyone? =D

Best as most fun driving game: Need for Speed 3 and Colin McRea 2 Rally.
Best at the moment for me: GTR Evolution with a steering wheel.

Nice to see so many votes for Burnout, sure EA are involved, but they managed to not get a commitee together to demand the fun was stripped out. EA knocking aside, the Burnout series, pretty much remind a player WHY they ever bothered to pick up a controller in the first place.

Here is car, there is other cars, there is end of road, be first.

That's it :D!

or, not even racing, but still Burnout...

Here is car, there is busy junction, cause mass destruction.
