they should re-release it on ps3, 360, wii and stuff, they dont even need to update the graphics, if they could just add new areas and stuff, it would be a day 1 buy. also have offline multiplayer again, Universe would have been great if it had multiplayer...
and it would be even better with free online play.
The graphics are fine even to this day. Universe was disappointing and the lack of offline multiplayer was sad.. Played it a few times, found out you needed live to play and having both is pricey. Went back to the Wii and popped in PSO+ and 4-player fun ensured.
It's not an easy game to get into, the visuals aren't pretty and the interface is a complete mess, but once you get into it it's the best damn city/sim/civ/dungeon game out there since Dungeon Keeper and possibly the best ever made.
THIS tutorial is pretty well done and certainly makes learning the game easier than figuring it out on your own or reading a guide, while THIS tileset mod makes the visuals much less obscure and easier to follow. There are also programs that allow you to upload your fortress into a 3D visual so that you can get a better perspective on what you're making. Essential for grand above-ground constructs!
Yes, I am just using this as an excuse to show off my latest project. Damn I love Dwarf Fortress!

yeah. they released a new universe (or portable) on the psp, called Portable 2, that I played the demo and it was great and felt it alost returned to the old version (even has all the old areas in it!), and has local and online, online which is free... but they havent decided on a NA or any other country release date, so far it only released in japan... >.<
Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory. Now THAT was fun. Only shitty thing was that an engineer could complete a round because they had everything you needed. Dynamite. Pliers. The whole 9 yards. But the people on the servers were awesome. They all played different characters and stuff and they loved to cooparate with one another.
So It might not have been the best free game, but probably the best free game experiance for me.
Most of the Aussie servers are gone now, so I stopped playing it =(

I second this. (Warms up Zorcher.) I rather liked the fact that even stuff most people won't see was changed (like the text for the chainsaw cheat). I know it was so the kiddies wouldn't see anything Doom related, but still, made a nice little bonus for people like me who see a Doom engine WAD file or EXE hack and proceed to dismember it giddily.
I hear tell that even now there's DM matches in Skulltag using Chex Quest resources.
