There are a lot of songs that seem to fuse together musical styles in ways that didn't seem possible. My favorite is Muse's combo of electronica and alternative, Supermassive Black Hole. Plus the drumbeat/handclaps spell out "TITS" in morse code. What is your favorite? (Include the genre's it is melding)

P.S. Rap/Rock is so common its no longer a fusion, its a genre.

Most instrumental bands like Jeff Beck that blend in diferent types of music genre.

Sometimes its Jazz/Funk Rock/Blues Techno/Rock Jazz/Funk/Rock/Techno.

That or Frank Zappa music which is around pure weirdness and genious.

Can I vote for Run DMC and Aerosmith doing "Walk This Way" because it was original in 1984?

Now THERE is the very definition of a classic genre-blending song. Kudos.

I think the Beastie Boys did a pretty good job of combining hip-hop with metal/hard rock. Rage Against The Machine's rap metal was quite original too.

In the Nursey and Explosions in the Sky are very good. Stuff like that.

"With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept" is among my favorites. Absolutely beautiful.

Fredrick Thordendal, the lead gutarist of Meshuggah, made a solo album "Sol Niger Within" which an amazing fusion of jazz and death/industrial/black metal. It's kind of hard to imagine, so here's a link.
Now, not everybody likes the scream at the beginning, so I'll say right now to skip to 0:38, which is where the first solo starts.

Also, Meshuggah themselves made a death metal + techno fusion on one of their EPs. Even though there's not very many people who actually like techno, I heavily suggest giving this song a listen. I'm not a big fan of the vocals on this particular song, but the rest is awesome.

Mushuggah isn't what I would normally listen to, but somehow I can't turn it off. Its like nails on a chalkboard scraping in tune.... (In a good way) Its the kind of thing I would pull as an influence for my songs but never completely adopt as my style. The same way you can be influenced by David Bowie without producing an album full of techno-pop-rock.

Come on, nobody's mentioned Anthrax and Public Enemy's collab? That was awesome!

Nightwish (with their old singer, Tara, or whatever her name was) mixed metal and opera. Freakin fantastic! Their cover of Phantom of the Opera was pretty awesome.
