My high school experience included two expulsions, getting shat on, 14 separate death threats, one attempt to kill me, and puberty. If that was the best time of my life I should just slit my wrists now.

Yeah, I'm with most people and was told that high school was the time of my life. It wasn't. For some people it might be but it definitely wasn't for me.

No. Really, know. Probably a mixture of melancholy and the fact that things in the past generally seem better it just is not.

Myself I'm starting to get a grip on my life and it just gets better now I'm nearly 30.

High School was good at the time, but I was more than ready to move on. It was kind of the same with College, except that I was actually able to focus on things I cared about and do honestly miss college sometimes, but I'm happier that I've moved on, I was getting sick of it.

But I do just want to say something about college; don't go in expecting too much, sure you'll probably have sex with a lot more people mostly because of the age you're at, but I soon stopped trying with that, and honestly being with someone who's good with you is way better.

I dunno, at the time you think everything matters so much, But looking back I had a great group of friends and we had shitloads of fun in college. Life is good at that age you have limited responsability and lots of free time before the real world strikes and you have to get a job. Yes the lessons/homework got in the way sometimes and some of the people there were dicks, but none of that beats the good times we had....

If you'd asked me a year ago if I liked high school, I would have responded with a laugh and an emphatic "No."

However, as of late, I do look upon my time in high school more favourably. It wasn't difficult, and I hung out with my friends at school, and worked on weekends. It was all around a pretty carefree time. The best time of my life? No, that was probably my grade 8 year. But it wasn't bad, now that I think of it.

I was told university would be the best time of my life. "You'll meet new people," and all that jazz. I don't like it.

Not necissarily, but life does seem to get crappier as you grow up. When you're young you're pretty much worryless and you can believe in and love awesome stuff like disney-style christmas, pokémon and what-have-you. My youth was pretty damn awesome because of this.

When I spent some time in high school, people started telling me I shouldn't whine about it because life after it was only worse. I never really agreed or disagreed with that sentiment, but it does certainly have its truth; back when I was still in high school all I wanted was more spare time to do stuff I actually liked. Now that I'm out of high school and swimming in spare time, I'm realize that stuff isn't always as rosey as it might seem. You need to work to get money, and especially if you're not as lucky as me in regards to family wealth, turning what you like into a job is really really hard and you're stuck having to work shit jobs or focus on shit studies really just to make a living.

It's not very often, but every now and then I really wouldn't mind being in high school again just to have my life 'planned out' for me. I can't even imagine what it would be like if you had the kind of parents that just kick you out of the house at 18.

I go to a public high school and for me it's always been great. There are stressors but they can all be overcome. I don't know anything about boarding schools but it sounds like you missed alot and i'm sincerely sorry for you. Everyday I see my friends and talk with them, I go to classes which can be challenging but which always reward my efforts. At night I hang out with friends or play video games or both. I get to come home every day and see my family who I love and who help me accomplish all of life's challenges. I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October and go to bootcamp in September. Every Friday I go workout with the Marines down at the office and they are all genuinely happy to see me. I don't get picked on which probably helps me enjoy school quite a bit, I'm not very big but I have a reputation as a badass just due to my demeanor . I wouldn't say i'm especially popular, but I love my friends, they aren't sports superstars but the teams couldn't win without them. I can't say i genuinely dislike anyone i've met at my school, i'm friends with all kinds of people from jocks and nerds and everywhere in between at all grade levels. I like to flirt with girls but I've never had a girlfriend when I was younger I thought I was in love buy now I know I was just crushing. Life is sweet enjoy what you have. An hour or two per night to center yourself and improve on one thing that you don't like will do wonders. That's what high school was like for me anyway. I'm gonna miss it.
its great to hear somone enjoying life so much (people do tend to be negative)

anyway to be honest I sort of had two phases of Highschool so Ive experienced the good and the bad

first two years I was at home in a small country town school, we were all one big group and great freinds and it was all so carefree, so yeah that was the idealistic time (even though perhaps I didnt apreciate it so much at the time)

then I had to go away to boarding school which actually wasnt that bad (and prbably a fun time for many people), but it was a very stressful time (on top of the social thing, trying to find my way in a school of 900+girls compared to a school of 120 kids, trying to work out what I was going to do, plus I actually became a little depresssed because my grades were so low that I couldnt do the highschool subjects (the ones that give you a score to get into university)

at which point I had somthing of an identity crisis, at least the dumb girls had lots of freinds, socalizing, alchohol, sex and that other stuff, at leasts the nerdy ones had nerdy freinds or if not that acedemic acheivment, and the all rounders...were all rounders

me on the other hand had nothing and I felt like nothing, ask anyone and all they could say about me was I was shy and quiet...and skinny (bigest complitment I ever got) I wsnt good at anything (I was good at art but I gave that up beforehand), had a few freinds but I wasnt even happy with the whole situation and I really belived my life was over

but I got over it and looking back it wasnt too bad...and really it was a much better option than staying at home (I would have been worse off in the long run) so yeah given the chance Id do it all again

anyway It wasnt untill I left school that I really became happy with myself (part of that was embracing my geeky side, now Im more happyer than ever)

I probably was told it and forgot about it. I know most of the book stuff I learned was pretty much garbage. I did learn a lot about people and society though. And yeah...the best sex I ever had was in high school. A lot of the happiest times I had were during high school and some of the coolest things I have done were during those years.

Truth be told though nothing really beats living on your own and the sudden realization you can eat bacon any time you want.

Think about this for a second.

Adolescence, the point in life when hormones cause intense mood swings, depression, thoughts of suicide, sexual tension, anger, impatience, insecurity and fear.

If these are the best years of my life, then I might as well just go end it myself, 'cause this life ain't gettin' any better.

I always heard that Uni/college was the best time of your life, but I find it boring, lonely, and in fact, a bit childish. I LOVED high school. I was with my best mates, in the best city in the world (Berlin), having an amazing time. School wasn't hard enough to distract from the fun, so the social life was great.

I think this stuff varies with people and places.

The saying is "school days are the best days of your life" because you basically have zero responsibilities. You go to school, you learn, and you socialise. No bills, no real life.

You'll understand when you're out living on your own and working 5 days a week just to pay the bills. Get home after a long day and you've only got a few hours to enjoy before it's off to bed so you can competently preform your job the next day so you don't get fired and end up on the street.

Then just when you've toiled for months and have saved up a small sum to buy yourself something nice or go on a trip, BAM! Life smacks you back somehow.

If you're lucky you'll get a nice "normal" mon-fri 9-5 job and will atleast be able to spend those few hours and days with friends instead of by yourself because you work night shifts and/or weekends.

Some people get luckier than others. But for me and most people I know, school (post-secondary included) were certainly the best of days looking back. We certainly didn't think so at the time either.
I see

I supose it depends on the induvidual though I dont see why adult life has to be so depressing,

I mean personally I dont think it takes much to keep myself happy

and to be honest this may sound silly coming from me but If my life comes down to working away and beliving that I will NEVER be as happy as in my highschool days then I dont belive its a life worth living

anyway I dont like to think about the past or future I like the idea of focusing on the now

personally I think its the worst thing you can say to somone what your really saying is

"so when its over its all down from here...then youll be as depressed as me!! might as well go jump in front of the next bus you see!"
