I find hard to pick one, all their games have such a high level of quality to them. I'll say the orange box though.

This is a tough choice, but really I like almost all (CS can suck a big one) the valve games on there own merits.

favorite MP competitive is TF2
Favorite MP cooperative is self explanatory (but Garrys Mod deserves an honorable mention in this category)
favorite SP is Half Life 2 (Portal deserves an honorable mention because its a damn good puzzle game)

so the majority of valve's recent games have been very good.

Half-Life 2 or Portal. I don't consider Left 4 Dead to be a true Valve game, because it was made by Valve West, not the main studio.

You cant compare a singleplayer game to multiplayer, they have different elements in them.
my favourite singleplay game from Valve would be Half Life 2 and my favourite multiplayer game would be Team Fortress 2

Half life 2 series. Incredible characters (and one of the few games that made my sympathize with the villain without being the villain (ala Overlord) and several moments I wondered why I couldn't join the combine). Alright the shooting is ho-hum perhaps. Not bad, but theres little that can't be solved with shift+w+M2 with the shotgun. The immersion is incredible, and it's hard to not be drawn into the shoes of Gordon (plus valve's sense of humor persists as they mock his muteness). There are some truly epic moments, such as the prison in Half life 2, as well as the final battle (no spoilers for you) in episode 2.

Next is, without a doubt, TF2. It is one of the most balanced, non-grenade spammy, shooters know. It has no regenerative health, so you know exactly how close you are to death (see cod), has no grenades or insta-death rockets (see TFC or HL2 DM), is INCREDIBLY balanced all things considered, and has enough unique things to prevent it from feeling cookie cutter (Ubercharges, Rocket jumps (though i have seen these preformed in other games, these feel fluid and natural) Backstabs, fire, and lest we forget THROWING BOTTLES OF URINE).

Sorry for the wall of text

A tie between Half Life for the singleplayer and TF2 for the multiplayer. Portal gets a well-deserved honourable mention.

I have no idea, because they're all great.

Alright, alright, I'll go with Half Life 2 & eps, with Portal and TF2 running behind.

Half Life is one of the few single player games I'm interested in, But I've had the most fun with TF2, and I'm best at L4D.
So I like all of them for those reasons.

Oh and I love portal....

This doesn't answer the question does it....

Half Life 2 followed very closely by Team Fortress 2 with that being followed by Portal.
As you may have worked out, I only have the Orange Box. Though I have played L4D on a console and sadly that was not online.
I find L4D fun without online.

Well, I like all of Valve's games, since I believe that if they combine into one entity, it could be named "Best Game Of All Time".

Portal. Left 4 Dead is fun, but after a while, I got bored of it. And I hated Half Life.

Hmm... I'd have to say Portal, though, like all of their games, I find it overhyped but still good. Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead were interesting exercises in multiplayer; Half Life a decent FPS but the "innovative storytelling" mostly consisted of refusing to include a developed protagonist. An interesting idea, and not necessarily a bad thing (they did it well) but having a nondescript protagonist is something that countless older games have done with ease.
On the whole, I lump Valve together with Blizzard. They substitute innovation to downgrade the awe-inspiring levels of polish Blizzard has into simply very good polish, but they still make high-quality popular games that defy the release schedules of mere mortals too.
