just.. you know, missed opportunity.

I'll be lead Easter-egg designer for anyone who wants to hire me btw!
Fire off an email to Hideo Kojima. I'm sure he needs a whole team of them for any game he makes.

Thread with more Easter Eggs [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.323064-Skyrim-Easter-Eggs]
There was a notched pickaxe in Oblivion, but then this one does seem dramatically placed... Still it is a good magic pickaxe for those with a taste for mining.

There's no reason to think this is a reference...

If the rocks around it were cubes, then yes. However, it's just a normal pickaxe with a weird name.

I love it. Would have liked it to be more blocky, but oh well. Damn school keeping me from Skyrim...

I think I found one of these in a dungeons somewhere, btw. Underground. I remember staring at it for a looooog time and thinking "where are the notches? surely it's not so notched as all that"

See now I saw a video showing this on YouTube, and I didn't believe it was an easter egg then, and I still don't, what evidence is there to say it is?

Has anyone considered it to be a coincidence? Or is everyone jumping to conclusions?
Someone also said this on the facebook comments, I'll just post here what I posted there

If it isn't an easter egg what is a lone pickaxe doing embedded in a rock at the top of a mountain? If it were in a room or a crate or somewhere you'd expect to find a pickaxe I'd be inclined to agree with you. As it stands it is just too remote and hard to get to location for such a simple thing that I don't think it can be anything but an easter egg.
Nope. [http://www.justpushstart.com/2011/11/14/skyrim-does-not-have-a-minecraft-easter-egg-after-all/] Just a regular old pickaxe apparently.
I think I remember getting the Notched Pickaxe in Oblivion. I geuss this is a case of Apophenia.

I'd like to believe this is a reference to Notch, but..... "notched" is an actual term to described a chipped item (if I remember correctly) be it intentional or from wear and tear. I personally believe this is nothing more than a coincidence.
But that's my opinion, nobody else has to share it.

And now people will understand the difference between the devs and lawyers... maybe.
I wouldn't hold my breath. People were up in arms over how Sony's CEO was talking to the Senate when he should be fixing PSN.

It's not like CEO and programmer are extremely different jobs or anything. No way! CEO must do everything.

I hope that this is a sign that relations between Mojang and Bethesda have improved, or at the very least, stoppped fuming over a silly lawsuit.

You guys should have looked into this further before making it a news post, the only relation this has to mojang is the notch part of notched, and "Notched" is a real word, not to mention "it looks a lot like the implement used in minecraft" is nonsense, since it just looks like a mining pick, also, and this is the deciding factor, this item existed in Oblivion, before minecraft was created.

That is actually pretty funny.

"No hard feelings." is what they say x3
No, more like shooting Mojang in the shin and smugly saying, "It's nothing personal".
Though, it is a very nice way to soften a blow.

At least it's the shins and not something more... Permanent or.. manly painfull ya know.
Can always be worse. Besides: "If they can do that, then we can do this." should have gone through their heads.

Can't say I noticed this one, but I was rather amused to be asked 'what? someone take your sweetroll?' by a guard, someone on the facebook bit had seen that too.

I can believe it's intentional. The devs of Bethesda do have a sense of humor, and it does seem like an odd location for such a specific item. It's definitely worth looking in to, though you might not get them to admit that it's a reference for obvious reasons.

Hey, Notch should totally sue, after all, I'm an idiot consumer who might confuse him with an item in Skyrim!

I kid, I kid.

I'm sceptical as to whether or not it is a easteregg at all. Pickaxe with a Notch in it...
But I am pretty impressed the way so many people are jumping on this story and going with it. (Oh and also kinda surprised that so few people actually know that 'notch' is a word)
