See now I saw a video showing this on YouTube, and I didn't believe it was an easter egg then, and I still don't, what evidence is there to say it is?

Has anyone considered it to be a coincidence? Or is everyone jumping to conclusions?
If it's unintentional, it's one hell of a coincidence. It could very well be such, but considering it's a Notched Pickaxe, being used to mine, while not actually being wielded by anyone, it's a pretty safe conclusion to make.

Plus, this is just the kind of thing Bethesda likes to do. There's a number of nods to various other bits of pop culture in the Elder Scrolls games, like how in Morrowind there was a legit weapon called BanHammer or a plant named Charles the Plant that gives Meteor Slime when harvested. It's actually kinda cool.

And don't forget the one in Oblivion where a book mentions a name that's an anagram of Frodo Baggins and a gold Ring of Invisibility. :) (I'm sure there are plenty more, that one just stuck with me)

I really would like to see some evidence from the people claiming it was in Oblivion. I'm not so ready to take it as an Easter egg or not an Easter egg, but I see more evidence (read: a picture right there) here than anyone saying it is in Oblivion has given.

So, I take it every Apple is a tribute to Steve Jobs now?

But seriously: I like to think it is a reference. Even if not, maybe it helps people realise that there is no reason to suspect the devs having a problem with each other.

And in other news, Notch sues bethesda over the use of the word 'notched' and the inclusion of pick-axes in Skyrim. More on this after the weather.

..Actually, am i the only one who would think that would be kind of hilarious (If sad) if that did actually happen? xD

I'd like to believe this is a reference to Notch, but..... "notched" is an actual term to described a chipped item (if I remember correctly) be it intentional or from wear and tear. I personally believe this is nothing more than a coincidence.
But that's my opinion, nobody else has to share it.
Yeah, but 'notch' is also an actual term.
A notch would appear in notched items.
Because they're notched.

I found this a couple of days ago. I wouldn't have even picked it up if it weren't for the fact that it's sitting right next to an incredibly rare ebony vein. Pickaxes are so heavy they aren't worth carrying around. I realized later that its actually enchanted. Gives a bonus to smithing, and does stamina damage.

There isn't a notched pickaxe in Oblivion. A plain one, a recently-used one, but not a notched one.

I never got the impression the suit was ever meant to be vindictive on the part of anyone at Zenimax. the US government advised them there could be a issue and they acted, just normal day to day stuff.

Huh. I wouldn't even know it was a reference to Minecraft if not for this article. (Or the fact a pickaxe is so valuable at 303 gold i suppose) It wouldn't be that out there to find a pickaxe that had been... well, notched. Since it's a real word and all.

It actually isn't a reference to notch. There was a notched pick-axe in Oblivion to but I can't remember where I found it...
