[HEADING=1]Battlefield 1943.[/HEADING]

Platform Reviewed On - Xbox 360
Price - 1200 Microsoft Points

Battlefield was released as a downloadable title on June 8th 2009, but don't let this fool you as 1943 is a fully fledged multiplayer experience from the creators of the Battlefield series of games.

[HEADING=3]The Good[/HEADING]

This is real war. Battlefield 1943 is set in the pacific theatre during the second world war, allowing you to fight as the Japanese or American forces. The game doesn't hold back, the maps are big, the vehicles plentiful and the player limit high. Using the Frostbite engine which powered Bad Company 1 before it, the game features fully destructible environments, and playing it really does make it feel like an actual battlefield. Bullets whiz past your head as you and your squad storm up the beaches, a plane flies over head decimating the houses ahead of you. As you cross the ridge you open fire on a group of soldiers. War has never been more immersive, and there are so many great moments with the destructible environments adding greatly to the experience.

The sound of combat. Battlefield 1953's sound is incredible, whether the simple noise from your rifle as you discharge a bullet or the roar of an Anti Air gun shooting at the planes flying overhead, the sound is definitely impressive. The guns sound as powerful as they look, which gives a much more immsersive and satisfying experience using them, it is far more realistic and really do add to the feel of the game.

Quick blast multiplayer. As a downloadable game, it is an impressive feat that it manages to feel like a fully fledged title. Being multiplayer only, 1943 is perfect from dropping in, playing a few rounds and then doing something else. It never feels too complex and is always fun to play in short chunks. This lends itself well to the game and means you won't tire of it quickly. This is the perfect example of how a downloadable game should be, and it is definitely great value for money.

[HEADING=3]The Bad[/HEADING]

A lonely four. 1943 only comes with four maps, one of which is used in an Aeroplane only gamemode. Whilst all these maps are brilliantly designed and fun to play, it would be nice to see more. Remembering it is only a downloadable game it is still above and beyond what downloadable games usually consist of, but perhaps more maps as DLC wouldn't go amiss. That is the only limited selection either. There isn't much room for class or equipment customisation, there are only three classes and it would be nice to have a bit more weapons to choose from.

[HEADING=3]In Conclusion[/HEADING]

Battlefield 1943 is impressive. As a download only game it is brilliantly balanced with plenty of content for such a small cost. You will get a lot of playtime out fo this and the community is going strong, the drawbacks relating to content are only minor as it is so well made as is. The game has future potential too, I would love to see DICE release some DLC for this game, free or otherwise. Some new maps would be great.

Like multiplayer titles that are immsersive, fun, balanced and come at a low cost? Then this game is definitely for you.

[HEADING=3]Favourite Moment[/HEADING]

Sniping an American soldier from halfway across the map, seeing a tank drive up the road beside you, blowing it up with charges and then fighting off a rifleman with a katana? Pure awesome.

Short and sweet. Good review. However I was wondering, what platform is it downloadable for? Also how much does it cost? Just curious.
