okay, so i just beat the game, loved it personally, had not problems with it until that WTF?!-romance bit...

okay, i liked this game, i still pretty much like it... just WTF?! with that Ryan guy... seriously? not to really spoil anything but he's an absolute douche from the first time i see him on screen and then at the end the game tries to 'convince' me that he magically 'loves' Jodie... and then i'm 'forced' to 'be in love' with him (even though i said 'no' and wanted nothing but to punch him the whole time) and just WTF?! WTF?! WTF?!

i hate to go all, i dunno, non-sexist? feminist? on this... but WTF?! this was a perfectly fine game, great story, and i love Jodie as a character, adding her to my little group of acceptable female MCs... or i would so long as i ignore all that bullshit with Ryan -.- fine character... until suddenly my strong female character has to give a flying fuck about some whiney, asshat of a sterotypical james bond wannbe grade-A fuckwit male MC of the white-30-something-dipped-in-brown variety... seriously, did they just pick this guy by smashing all the male MCs from the past 30yrs into one and forgot they're all kinda assholes outside the 'hero' status?

grr... back on point, why did they throw in this forced romance into a story that didn't need it, or want it? it wouldn't have been bad if the guy was decent, but nope, this guy is a complete asshat and not worthy my or any woman's time, especially someone as emotionally closed off as Jodie? WTF?! game industry, WTF?! just because she's a woman and a female MC does not mean she NEEDS some forced romance bs... i saw better/more chemistry/development with the freakin Navaho guy then this prick...

i loved this game/story until this point, now i'm just very 'meh', i'm glad for the 'beyond' ending really... if i just ignore Ryan's pathetic attempts to insert himself as the MC, or his existance period beyond that douchebag that listens to the government, i'm fine, all the act 4 bs he was pulling just pissed me off and seemed to just bring Jodie's character down...

anyone else feel the same? disliking this insert-male-romance that's pathetically transparent, forced and not needed in a decent story about a woman?

god i just wanted to punch him every chance i got, why didn't i get that option?

You can reject him every time though. You can choose to be with the Navaho guy if you prefer. Or no one at all.

I can't be the only one who thinks that the spirit mechanic worked better in Driver San Francisco and would have worked way better in a GTA clone where you could possess any pedestrian, so suddenly grandma goes nuts and kills 5 hookers. Or a soldier steals a plane from his own base.

I mean, the stuff I saw still looks kind of cool, but at the same time they would have been way better for an open world game.

Oh well.

Um.. what's an MC?

We really need a discussion about what makes a character "You". Very few games give you complete liberty to be yourself. I haven't played Beyond: Two Souls but I assume this applies with "Jodie" too: do you get to select how she looks? Absolutely everything she does? How she swings her hips when she walks? When she goes to the bathroom? If not, then why should you choose her lover? That's not something I personally believe, it's just to emphasise that games and gamers will pick and choose the way they get to act and don't get to act, somewhat hypocritically. Most games will not give you complete free will. Clearly the OP thinks Jodie is "I" which gives the right to pick her lover, when there are probably a thousand more things she doesn't get to choose; and that if we were given such choices, the narrative, practicality and fun of the game would be completely shattered.

Romance scenes in David Cage games are always like that, but I just remembered they used mocap actors for this game. I think I'll pass this time around...

Welcome to your choice not really matters Territory, so honestly it's how you decided to play it. In my play-through they had sex in the apartment and even though ya he's a total ass at times you can easily see how it can turn into a love interest.

You hit the nail on the head calling her emotionally closed off but used a squeaky hammer if you can't get why she'd fall in love with him. Basically he's the first guy in her life that isn't a father figure, around her age, not bad looking and desire. Going back to the apartment scene she outright says she had basically no relationships with Aiden chasing away all the other guys. So you have a guy that knows the Aiden bs, if you let it happen first person she had sex with and how knowing her choices are very damn limited, why not see it as just what the hell love. Same logic can be put to Ryan to, hasn't had a girlfriend in a while and work gets in the way. Just people clinging to what they got.

I'm a bit more thrown off by the Jay choice. He was a prick to and really his younger brother more hit it off with jodie in my game more then jay ever but hell maybe even stan would be a good choice. Eh kinda just want to write it as she likes pricks ;p.

Because David cage is bad at writing and directing video games and everything he makes has bullshit forced romance that makes no sense.
