Biden helped avert a railway strike that would have cost the US $2 billion a DAY.

Democrats need to hammer home the point that they're better for the economy in their campaign ads. Inflation and gas prices have gone down thanks to them, and they helped avert a railway strike that would have cost the country $2 billion a day.

It's hard to tell just how much credit Biden and his team deserves for the deal though. It can also be easily used by the GOP as a "look how bad unions are for the country, they almost paralyzed railway transport evem after securing a 20% raise". I totally agree that democrats are far better for the economy than GOP, but I'm not convince this story is necessarily the best example of that.

Delayed. He helped delay a railroad strike. And when negotiations fall through, there's a cooling off period that conveniently takes us past the midterms and doesn't give a massive economic downturn win to the Republicans.
Maybe, but could you imagine how badly Trump would have botched negotiations?

It's amazing what happens when you have a competent government in charge and not just a demagogue with a short temper and a twitter account. Biden is generally okay to mediocre but that's still miles above the flaming dumpster fire the last administration was.

Trump: Making Mediocrity look great again.

Fucking the working class is part of the Republican mindset. Can't have the plebs eating into the profits, can we?
I mean that's it exactly. If it was good enough to Chinese immigrant slave labor in the 1800s, damn it, its good enough for some uppity lesbian with blue hair and student debt from engineering school.

Biden "intervened" months ago to come up with a deal but totally ignored the main issues of the workers, which isn't pay but quality of life matters like being able to take more than a day off per month and being able to call off sick. Really great job on Biden's part!!!!! Thank god we have the democrats to stand up for the common worker!!!!!

24% is pretty fucking good as a wage increase. However it does raise two slightly awkward questions;

1) How responsible is Biden and the Democratic Party for this? I can see they were involved in negotiation, but usually the governing party plays a mediating/facilitating role with this kind of thing. Certainly creditable but... well, not necessarily actually responsible.

2) If 24% was within the industry's ability to provide, why the hell was this conflict necessary in the first place? Why is it the default position of industry to hold back the pay provisions they are able to provide? We know the answer to this latter question.

The conflict wasn't mainly about pay.

Pay wasn't the crux of the issue; time off was. With staffing shortages in the industry, workers were basically kept on-call on a constant basis. That makes it hard to, you know, live your life outside of the job- and anyone who thinks "they should just deal with it because they're needed" should be forced to do the same.

Only two of the three unions' representatives at the negotiations agreed to the deal, and it has yet to be ratified by the unions that did agree. The only thing that was accomplished, was kicking the can down the road by two weeks and even that's not a guarantee.

Biden announced a deal before the union memberships indicated agreement, which is a way of putting pressure on those union memberships to vote yes. This is not a president who is friendly to the labor movement. He's a manipulative corporate servant.

FDR, arguably. Also never, arguably.
My Grandma, to this day close to 97 years old, has never voted Democrat. Ever. She has absolutely hated the Republican candidates, but she openly says she will never forgive FDR for the New Deal and swore to never vote for a Democrat as long as she lived.
People wonder how we're so divided now. Trump certainly fanned those flames, but its been a roaring bonfire for the entirety of US history.

More specifically, it's about teeing the media up to redirect blame and manufacture opposition to the railway strike if it happens. If the "deal" falls through, the headlines become "evil greedy railway unions renege on deal and throw country into depression".
