Sometimes its best to just let the screaming child have their tantrum and tire themselves out. For best results, affect a disinterested expression and occasionally look at your phone.
problem is China loves getting it's own way like that. It gets to play struggle sessions which it has a long history of doing.

It’s funny that their counterpoint is that US stuff is all in the past and that China is bad now but the US prison population as a proportion of all Americans probably isn’t far off from Uyghur work camps as a proportion of the Chinese population, among the dozens of other similar actions the US is carrying out right now and has been for decades. Geopolitics is the parable about complaining about the splinter someone else has when you have a log in your eye, except it’s just two dudes entirely made out of logs doing the arguing.

I'm really getting a kick of these kinds of stories being the best the news cycle can do to drum up drama about the new administration. It's doing wonders for my blood pressure. Because the US hasn't imprisoned anyone in the 21st century for speaking out against the state, nor does it have "secret prisons" like China does.
Because the US isn't engaged in organ harvesting of its prisoners.
There's a lot to criticize about the US prison system, but I'm not sure how anyone could cast it as being morally equivalent to China's state apparatus.

I hope Biden gets his CCP policy right. Over-estimating them is the safe choice, but if it means we spend one hundred billion more on our military than we need to, then that means millions to tens of millions of people's lives will have their quality of life reduced. Underestimating them means disaster for our allies and much of the free world.
