I was thinking the same thing as well. They might actually make a movie/documentary out of it called "They Saved Lloyd Kaufman's Head".

Fantastic job on this article, Bob. It makes me smile to hear Troma is doing great in the 21st century. But I think we should have seen it coming since they've embraced the digital age much like they embraced the VHS boom in the 1980s. Plus its a total mind-fuck to know that James Gunn, proud graduate of the Troma School of Guerrilla Filmmaking and screenwriter for Tromeo and Juliet, is now the director of a major Marvel Studios film. Troma has a connection to Hollywood in one form or another, whether the big studios want to admit it or not. This is the same independent studio that gave guys like Kevin Costner and Samuel L Jackson their start (although, those actors will deny that fact even on their death beds). Troma is the STD of the film industry; hard to kill and gets into everything.

Whatever happens in the future, I hope Troma will live on for another 30-40 decades and beyond in one form or another.

This was actually a bit touching. Well done, Moviebob. Well done. As someone who's been involved in a tiny-scale film festival, I can relate perfectly to the entire first page. One of our guests of honor was just a house painter who decided to pick up a camera and shoot a film starring his brothers. There is nothing more indie than that.

The other big takeaway from this article: Lloyd Kaufman is somehow still alive and making movies. The man could only be more indestructible if we turned him into Robocop.

He doesn't enjoy being bashed on the head with messages, but he does enjoy schlock. If heavy-handed messages enhance the schlock, I guess that's a good thing?

HA! I've seen a few of the Troma films, and while I'm not as big a fan as you Bob, I really got to agree with you on how they can be so appealing.
Just reading the article I can tell how much you love them, and it seems the people making them love them just as much.

He only really enjoys heavy-handed messages if they're ones he agrees with, otherwise then it's ruining the movie. As far as the movie in question goes, I'm going to treat this one the same as I'm treating Blue is the Warmest Color - wait a while and look up any and all lesbian sex scenes online, because the rest of the movie sounds far too boring to watch otherwise.

According to Kaufman, each one starred in a Troma movie before hitting it big. Costner was in Sizzle Beach USA and Jackson in Def by Temptation.

If anyone with a Netflix account is interested in a little behind the scenes fun for this, there's an episode of the show Oddities (like Pawn Stars but with weirder stuff) that basically focuses on Kaufman trying to find an item for what I can only assume was this very film. I forget what they end up getting for him, but I'm curious if it's actually a prop in the movie.

I don't remember what episode it is, but I believe it's in Season 3. I'm sure it'll say in the episode description.

I am still trying to work out how this all fits in to his support of feminism in gaming. I guess it's ok, because Troma movies are ironic and the sexism and violence towards woman is just harmless fun.

I really wish I could just swap out my belief systems like that. Doing an episode on sexism in movies and then doing an article on a series of exploitation movies highlighting the amount of sex and nudity in them AND comparing it to a modern art house film to say that the porn in that, has less value than the porn in the film he likes.

I just don't even know anymore...
