I remember someone talking about being an author saying that writers write.

It sounds trite, but I think it effectively represents that many people who dream of being author won't because they don't have that factor X that makes them sit down and actually fucking write. Whereas a writer may never really retire, because even when they sort of say they've done all they want, they'll keep going anyway because they have that bug.
