I was recently playing Bioshock to get myself prepared for the sequel. After I got all the weapons, I had the feeling that I had seen almost all of them in one game, it seems to me all the weapons are shockingly similar. And Bioshock even has a plasmid that is almost the same thing as the gravity gun. Anyone else notice or have I played Half Life too many times?

From what I remember, the weapons from both games were your standard FPS arsenals, just with slight differences. However, I haven't played Bioshock in awhile...

As for the gravity gun thing, a lot of post HL2 games included knock-offs like that.

Yeah, they're similar. Not too shocked though

Bioshock includes a lot other Plasmis, though, and Telekinesis has been around a lot longer than Half Life 2.
System Shock 2 or Arx Fatalis, anyone?
Half Life 2 just took it from somewhere else, too, and repackaged magic as a gun.
Bioshock probably took it from System Shock 2 and repackaged PSI as a genetic mutation.

I thought the crossbow with the wire in Bioshock was pretty unique.

Although saying Bioshock ripped off HL2 because of the one plasmid is a bit of a stretch. If that was the only plasmid you might have had a point.

Yea I love the trap bolts, one of my favorite things in the game.

Yea, the gravity gun was just another take on telekinesis really. It's a very old concept. They just packaged it differently.

Let's see...
Pistol: Both.
Crossbow: Both.
Shotgun:Both.
Camera: Bioshock only.
Monkey Wrench:Ehh, sort of, crowbar and monkey wrench are both generic items used as weapons.
Flamethrower:Bioshock only.
Machine gun: Sort of both, in the case of function, not looks.
Grenade Launcher: The grenade launcher in Bioshock does fire heat-seaking missiles, and there is a RPG launcher in Half-life, but they don't work in the same manner.
So end result, not exactly, but there are some weapons that are the same/similar....And then you have Plasmids....
