Bioshock Vita Still in Limbo

Ken Levine is still waiting on 2K Games and Sony to "make a match."

While offering nothing more than a confirmation of the project's existence, Ken Levine's <a href=http://www.1up.com/news/bioshock-vita-all-new-core-game>2011 announcement of a Bioshock game for Vita set player's minds ablaze with thoughts of mind bending tales they could potentially play on the go. The two years since however, have been sadly bereft of further details, with Levine commenting only to confirm that the project could possibly still go forward in the future. Now, Levine has offered up another brief update on Bioshock Vita and, unfortunately, the game seems to be much in the same spot it was the last time he commented on it.

"I talked to both Sony and 2K about it yesterday," said Levine, <a href=https://twitter.com/IGLevine/status/355874911627124736>responding to a Twitter follower. "Trying to make a match." Levine's update is likely to disappoint the many Vita owners who had likely hoped to hear that there had progress made on a portable Bioshock. Sadly, it would seem that there hasn't been any forward movement for the project since Levine confirmed back <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122367-Ken-Levine-Admits-BioShock-Vita-Not-Coming-Soon>in February that work would start the second "somebody starts signing checks."

That being said, if 2K Games is reluctant to invest in a Vita title, it would arguably be somewhat hard to blame them. While Vita sales have <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122535-Japanese-Vita-Sales-Quadruple-After-Price-Drop>improved in Japan following a region exclusive price drop, the handheld has not sold <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121407-Hirai-Vita-Sales-On-the-Low-End-of-Expectations>as well as expected, overall. That said, a high profile game like Bioshock could be just what the doctor ordered, so here's hoping we get more positive updates from Levine and friends in the future.

For me to get a Vita I would need three things:
1) A console price drop.
-Doesn't have to be 'major', but when the competition (3DS) has a stronger line-up at a lower entry point, it's kind of hard to justify dropping the cash.

2) Cheaper, larger, memory cards and/or allow 3rd-party manufacturers to make them.
-60 to 90USD for a MEMORY card is BULLSHIT and I will NOT waste my money on a system asking that much to save/install my games.

3) More than just PS3 ports.
-Don't know about you but I don't give a damn about 'cross play' or whatever.
Playing a portable version of games I already own isn't appealing to me, it's lazy and pointless to me.

The PSP had some GREAT games for it, just look at most of the stuff Atlus released on it, and most of the exclusives I loved for the system WEREN'T ports or PS2/3-lite.
They were solid games released on a solid system.

Sony shot themselves in the foot with PSV.
It's ALL on them.

Does it really need to come out on the vita? The games been out for a while now and I really don't fancy playing it on a small screen. I also doubt it will sell as well as it did on other consoles because every one who was interested in it has already brought it.

You could almost say the game is trapped in a... Vita chamber

The linked article says the game will be all new, and not just a port of B:I. I would kinda prefer an all new game didn't come out on the Vita, to be honest, because I don't own one and would feel I was missing out on some of the story if they make another console game.

sigh.that's exactly the issue there. vita doesn't sell because publishers are not willing to invest in it- and publisher's aren't willing to invest in it because it doesn't sell. It's a vicious circle.

It's a shame too, such a lovely piece of hardware...

Don't blame 2K games for not showing an interest, but I'm baffled Sony haven't done more, seeing as the Vita is the perfect handheld for FPS games, FPS are all the rage on home consoles, and even if Killzone Mercenaries is a massive hit, it won't be selling like hotcakes forever, if it does at all. Sony need another FPS in the Vita's pipeline, and a Bioshock FPS would be perfect.

Silly Sony. And you've been doing so well recently.

Make it happen damn it! MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I can't throw enough money at the screen. I adore my Vita and it could sorely do with a touch of BioShock to spice things up a bit.

Especially after Infinite has been such a sucess and the Vita is very slowly becoming less horribly stagnant.

As cool as it would be to have Bioshock on VIta, I doubt it would finally convince a large amount of people to finally shell out the money for the system. I really can't blame 2K for thinking it would be a waste of time and money.

Even though I don't think the Vita is dead yet, I don't see any killer apps coming any time soon on the system. I'm not even sure what game would move units in a big way anyway.

Levine, just make the damn thing for the 3DS; sure, it won't be as pretty, but you can't tell me you can't do SOME version of a Bioshock on it.
