BioWare Begins a Mysterious Countdown

A mysterious countdown has begun ticking away on BioWare's [http://www.bioware.com] websites, and we have absolutely no idea what it is.

Seriously, we don't have a clue. If you're hoping that I had some kind of "wink wink, nudge nudge" thing going on when I said that we have no idea what this is all about, you're in for a disappointment. We're completely in the dark. But that doesn't mean we can't speculate!

The clock has a little less than six days remaining at the time of this writing, meaning it will come to an end at noon EST, on March 29. It's up on the main BioWare site as well as the Mass Effect [http://dragonage.bioware.com] websites, which may or may not suggest that something pan-BioWare is going to happen. A look at the source of each of the sites in question revealed only one thing unusual: The ominously named div class, "OMGWTFBBQ."

Could another Dragon Age expansion be on the way? Perhaps new DLC for Mass Effect 2? The official opening of message [http://www.swtor.com/] posted in the BioWare Social Network forums, the always-informative community coordinator Chris Priestly said only, "Hmm... seems to be a countdown clock on each BioWare page. Main site, Mass Effect, Dragon Age... Must be something cool coming."

A lot of people seem to think a Mass Effect 3 announcement is on the way, but I'm going to put my money on a new MDK [http://www.bioware.com/games/mdk2/] release. Hey, when I predict, I predict boldly. What's your guess?

For some reason, this caused me to start humming the Terminator theme.

Anyway, considering it has Mass Effect in the backround, it's probably some sort of DLC.

The reason it has the Mass Effect 2 background is because it's their newest game. It's on DA:O's website too. I don't see how a countdown on the DA:O can mean new Mass Effect 2 DLC.

My money is on the TOR beta going live. A friend of mine in the alpha said 2-3 weeks ago that it would be starting "Sooner than 'soon' usually means", so I'd say that is the most likely.

Their are so many countdowns on so many sites now they've lost all meaning and mystery to me.

Although I still hope it's somthing to do with Mass Effect.

Isn't that about the time the Hammerhead DLC is supposed to drop? Or the new character? But knowing Bioware they put the countdown to an announcement when they will announce they are going to make an announcement.

What is it with companies and mysterious countdowns these days? Quite a few companies have these mysterious clocks ticking away.

I hope it's something reeeally dumb, like mailing out biscuits to the first 100 people who click the link at noon.

Hammerhead DLC is out NOW. But the new Character is later next month so its neither of the DLC's.

The Old Republic beta?

Yes please!

Or maybe a Dragon Age/Mass Effect 2 crossover game which would make no sense...
