I may be not the most informed gamer ever, but what is up with all the hate about EA/Bioware? I mean I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origin and 2 (enjoyed Origin more)

But to answer the thread cannot wait for the third just hope that I'll can be my favorite class, Elf arcane warrior or has some choice in race and companion's armor.
It's mostly with EA being as greedy as possible with it's business practices. They foist their own client on you for every PC game they have, their servers are crap, they're homogenizing every game they're making from this day forth, a EULA that basically says if their services crap out you can't do anything about it, day 1 DLC, online passes every new release needs to access the whole game, releasing the same game every year(Madden, but that's my gripe) and destroying decent developers when the games they(EA) radically alter don't do well. There is a whole thing on it, hell this video will help explain:

Also, captcha: it is enough

Somehow fitting...

Jay Wilson mode on: "Bioware? Fuck those losers."

With Wasteland 2, Project Eternity, Chaos Chronicles, Shadowrun and a few other real RPGs(and not action games that Bio makes) Bioware can close its doors for all I care.
RPGs fans have some really great games to look forward to thanks to kickstarter. It finally looks like the RPG genre is exiting the dark ages of cinematic gameplay, emotionally engaging(tm) stories, cringe worth romances, immersion at the cost of gameplay and shallow gameplay altogether.

Also, LAAAAAAAAWL at people who actually think Dragon Age 2 was good. You need to either have extremely low standards or DA2 is your first game ever.

Well, they've been working on it for at least two years before even starting to think about turning on the hype machine, so it can't possibly be worse than DA2 (which in my opinion, was all right. Not great, but just about passable).

I could have went in further about certain thing EA has done to get all the hate, but other forum users and Jim Sterling have at one time or another about why people hate EA, but I cut that bit out because it could have ignited a flame war, just in case that rant seemed a bit short.

Of course compared to ME3 auto-dialogue it's heaven ...

As I've said before, they have been taken over by writers ... they mention player agency, but they don't know the meaning of the words.

Hopeful. Might manage miracle. Probably not. Warden might show up. Morrigan as well. And kid. Hoping so. Inquisition... *breath* not touching refference.

Just out of curiosity did you play DA2 on PC or console?
Console. Pre-ordered it after I saw developer videos and trailers, thought it looked awesome, and because the special edition cost the same as the regular edition. My friends got me to get the first game by way of the Ultimate edition(cause I should play the first before starting the second), even-though I didn't like the looks of it when I watched them play it.

Between 20 to 25 hours into Origins, I just couldn't play it anymore because of the things I already mention, and because of the cliche very similar to each other and unlikeable party characters.

After that, I decided to give DA2 the benefit of the doubt, and kept my pre-order alive because I had hopes they would change what I didn't like. I was trilled to find out they did, and it was one of my top favorite games of that year.

Can't Wait!

Should be interesting to see how terrible the mandatory multiplayer component is...

Look, we knew they were likely going to Orlais because of the cryptic messages from the golem in Act 3 of DA2.

For what it's worth, I loved DA2. It had serious gameplay flaws, but it also had some brilliant things that I don't think many other games have done quite as well. If they can fix the environments, combat wave mechanics and the story pacing but keep the character writing, charm, diversity and interaction, it will be a corker of a game.

I don't care if EA sucks, I love Dragon Age: origins and I'll still play DA2 when I get it tomorrow. So therefore, I am soooooooo happy to hear DA3 has been confirmed. Color me pleased.

I did actually enjoy the second game (one play through only verses 2 and a half of the first game) so I will pick it up.

Agree to disagree. I found pretty much every change they made to Origins in making DA2 a change for the worse.

The dialogue wheel is always bad, because it obfuscates what the character is actually saying. All you know is a three word, often misleading, summary and how much of an asshole Hawke/Shepard was going to be when they said it.
If they have to keep that awful system in, I'd rather it be like Deus Ex: Human Revolutions, in that the short summary expands into what you're actually going to say when you highlight the option. And I liked Hawke less simply because he was voiced. His voice actor sounded unlikable regardless of inflection. Give me the Grey Warden any day.
One of the things i really liked about DA:2 was the fact that Hawke was voiced and I thought the dialogue wheel was fairly straightforward, rarely did Hawke say something I wasn't expecting, but then I got very used to the dialogue wheel in ME and think it really adds to a game. I have replayed Origins a number of times and it never fails to annoy me how emotionless the Warden is, no matter what race or gender they are they have the same blank face and don't seem to be affected by whats going on. Hawke at least seems to care (if you choose the diplomatic dialogue options) or at least reactions emotionally to situations. I also liked that Hawke's dialogue in cut scenes change depending on what personality Hawke has, so if you play through once as a Diplomatic Hawke and then again as a Charming/Sarcastic Hawke then you'll hear different lines. I think that is a great touch.

As for the voice acting, I never played male Hawke, but the voice acting for female Hawke was great, I really felt Hawkes personality in her voice, but then I also think Female Shepards voice actor, Jennifer Hale is better then Male Sheps.

WOOOOO

Apart from that sonic game and THAT ENDING, I have loved every Bioware game, and dragon age origins and 2 are my favorites. Cant wait :D

I'm actually really looking forward to what the mutiplayer is like. I would love a good multiplayer as long as it doesn't cause the single player to get watered down. Even if its just an entertaining tack on like the mass effect 3 mutiplayer, I will be pleased.

There may not even be a multiplayer though. Remember no EA games are green-lighted without an interactive comportment. This could mean a facebook game type thing, like DA Legends. doesn't guarantee a multiplayer.

"a more expansive world,
YES!!! DA2 was way too small for my liking.

better visuals,
Don't care, did you just say that to please your whip handlers?

more reactivity to player choices,
Always a good thing

and more customization."
This is another thing that DA2 lacked, let's hope they keep their promises. And of course keep that Bioware magic flowing by delivering great characters.

We'll see. I know I'm going to buy it but only time will tell if it's good. Also I miss my warden, I want to play as him again. I miss my companions from Origins too. On the bright side we still have project eternity if this sucks. And if it doesn't we still have project eternity anyway.

I'm going to go against the grain and give BioWare the benefit of the doubt. I wouldn't be surprised if they have learned from their mistakes.

When Dragon Age III comes out we'll find out.
Judging by development time we can be reasonably sure at least we won't get another rushed debacle like its predecessor. Whether they actually manage to create something good in their alloted time remains to be seen.

It undoubtedly being on Origin means I won't buy it, but I'm certainly hoping it turns out to be a good game.
Maybe they'll bring it to Steam. I mean a lot of people were pissed off about ME3. If people who actually said they'd boycott it did(long shot I know) then maybe EA will realise that the first rule of business is to earn money and if people don't buy you're game then you don't earn money.
That's a big nope, right there. They've got too much invested in Origin to suddenly back down and release one of their front-running titles on Steam.

Pssst. Long dev time != a game that isn't rushed.

Some prominent examples: Duke Nukem Forever, Ultima 9, etc.

For all we know they've been twiddling their thumbs for two years, or even worse, they repeated the mistakes of Ultima and were forced to keep throwing out their original work and starting over for any number of reasons.

What I'd really like to know, though, is how they implemented multi-player functionality into the Dragon Age franchise. Because remember, EA is very proud of the fact that it refuses to green-light anything that doesn't have some form of multi-player functionality into it. Which means in order for DA3 to be green-lit, it must have multi-player in some format (either that or EA's executives blatantly lied to their customers AGAIN, which is possible too I suppose). So I wonder how they did it. Dragon Age 3 Facebook apps? Twitter feeds? Local co-op play? Or, god forbid, they ripped out its very soul and turned it into a F2PMMO like how it corrupted C&C? I can't wait to hear all the juicy details. :D
The main complaint about DA2 was not that it was bad, it was that it was severely showing the signs of EA forcing Bioware to release either Mass Effect 2, or Dragon Age 2 ahead of schedule. Of the top of my head the dev cycle for Dragon Age 2 was a grandstanding 18 months.

As to your concern about multi-player: I'd like to note not the overall reliability of EA statements (not much), but the complete lack of any financial incentive for them to release Dragon Age 3 without a MP component that can be milked.

Facebook Apps seem to be a somewhat definite check. LAN support... probably not - it doesn't make them money.
Full multi-player component along the lines of Mass Effect 3 seems quite likely. Whether it's any good remains to be seen.

Either way not much interest for this after Biowares last few games. :(
I disagree, though I did not play Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age 2 was a project handed to a different team with a year and a half limit of creation on it, and it came out pretty well. It was more like a dungeon crawler than the original game but it had it's ups and downs and came out pretty decent, at least. I think because DA2 sold so well, EA is giving Bioware more leeway for the new one, and they're now ramping up a true sequel to the original.
Needless to say, my faith in Bioware isn't gone and I look forward to the new DA, the new main character, and the new title of Inquisitor.
