BioWare Denies Dragon Age: Origins Delay

A pair of online retailers have pushed their listed shipping dates for the upcoming RPG BioWare [http://dragonage.bioware.com/] says the game is still on schedule for its planned October launch.

Dragon Age: Origins was originally scheduled for release on October 20 and remains that way in the eyes of most retailers, but both PlayStation 3 [http://www.gamefly.com/RentalMediaTitleSearch/Search/?kw=dragon+age&sec=1&Go=Submit], while Newegg has both versions listed as shipping on November 4.

GoGamer [http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?N=0&Ntk=TitleKeyword&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntt=dragon%20age] still have Dragon Age: Origins listed at October 20, however, and Erik Einsiedel of BioWare said the game is still on schedule. "We're still tracking towards our October 20th release date, so I can't comment on whatever's appearing on GameFly and Newegg," he told us.

So while it appears to be something of a tempest in a teacup, people are understandably jumpy about even the slightest sign of delays in the few games that remain scheduled for 2009. The holiday release schedule has already been gutted [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93452-Holiday-Game-Delays-Are-They-Good-for-Gamers], with major titles like BioShock 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction and Red Dead Redemption among the many that won't make it in time. Fortunately, it doesn't look like we'll be adding Dragon Age: Origins to that list.

Tch, never trust retailers for accurate release dates. They stick release dates on our titles well before we ever announce them so it's become more than obvious that they're just pulling numbers out of a hat.

If you don't hear it directly from the publisher, don't bother believing it.

I wonder why the those specific retailers chose to botch the release dates.

Well play.com still have it slated for the 23rd october. Though to be honest i could live with it been bumped to november as iv'e preordered windows 7 and that comes out near enough same time as dragon age that's gonna be an expensive month.

Is someone a Red Hot Chili Peppers fan?

Glad to hear that the game is still on track, hopefully this was just a goof-up by the retailers.

This is coming out on the exact same day as Borderlands. I'm going to be very broke in October.

Hehehehe suckers.

Why wait for them to ship to retailers when you can just waltz down to Bioware itself and grab a copy? Edmontonians FTW!
Holy shit your from Edmonton I'm right by there that was my plan as well I love living in the same area as Bioware

Interesting, Brutal Legend and Dragon Age will be in direct competition with each other (both RPGS) and then there's Modern Warefare 2 but other than that the schedule isn't too heavy. Personally I'm suffering from a lack of good RPGs so cross fingers Dragon Fingers will be worth the buy.

And Brutal Legend. I'll wait for one to go down in price.

Well I wouldn't consider Brutal Legend to be in direct competition to Dragon Age, especially since I'm a PC gamer and BL has no PC release date yet (and may never be released on PC..).

I suppose the delays may be stock issues for specific companies?

That Bioware rep lied, it is being delayed until November [http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/101/1012182p1.html]

Just another source, an official Bioware post on the DA forums confirming the delay (scroll down to Chris Priestly's post) [http://daforums.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=688978&forum=135&sp=75]
