*This thread contains minor spoilers about the end. I intended it contain none, but people have been posting minor spoilers anyway.*

The Mass Effect 3 ending details have been data mined due to leaks/early copies and the results are not good at all. The majority of the members on the bioware forums have gone up in flames and are outraged. It's not pretty.

How far can Bioware/EA go to completely alienate their fans?

The fallout from Dragon Age 2 was bad enough. Then Mass Effect 3 DLC controversy was even worse. This looks like it could be the killer.

I don't want to include spoilers in this thread, but if you really want to know, go to the Bioware forums and look at the Mass Effect 3 spoiler thread. You can't miss it.

For those who are fine with very vague spoilers, but don't want to know the actual details:

All of the possible endings are incredibly depressing and the sense of purpose from the two previous games are destroyed.

Whilst not everyone is outraged at this, this could be enough to really hurt Bioware and force them into some strange DLC fix situation. From the looks of things, people aren't going to live this down.

For discussion:

What are your thoughts on Bioware? Why have they had their foot stuck in knee deep controversy for the last few years? Do you think the reaction to the endings will do serious damage?

Oh well that sucks but I mean they are only being realistic. Think about an army of giant death robots attack the world. Even if we stop them the damage, both emotionally and physically would be huge. I mean a nice ending would be nice, just make it hard to get.

Oh for the love of God, that does it, I'm not looking up anything ME3 related at all anymore.

P.S. well considering that Earth gets sacked in the first five minutes what were they expecting? To be frank I'm surprised that the endings are going to be depressing, although that's kinda vague. There's a difference between a Bittersweet ending and a Downer ending. I mean the game could end with the galaxy shattered but show that people are getting back on their feet. I would be happy with that.

Weird though, they said that there would be a happy ending

Did the data mine get all of the endings?

The specific ending details can be found the Mass Effect bioware forums. Here is the link:

Haha.

It's the most hate I've seen directed at a Bioware game ever. I think it out does Dragon Age hate.

The double-standards of some haters (or fans) amazes me. Up until now, people were slamming Bioware for possibly pulling a Deus ex Machina on the endgame or that the Reapers weren't threatening enough, and that everything would turn out perfect if you did all the right choices. But now that spoilers apparently show that sh*t has indeed gotten real and no matter what you do, you'll lose something you've come to care about, people complain about it being too depressing? Can't win either way, it seems.

No idea what you mean by "loss of sense of purpose", but I guess we'll know what you mean in a week.

Considering how god awful the Mass Effect 2 ending was that's actually the most promising thing I've heard about Mass Effect in a while.

I hope it's not to the extent of Dragon-Age kind of depression.

Still, I'm going to enjoy the journey either way.

Three fourths of the thread is crying and the other fourth is making fun of them. It's fucking beautiful.

No happy ending? hmm, seems like Bioware might have actually taken a risk, good move, especially if the endings are well done. I will have to play the game for myself before I make up my mind, no way in hell am I reading the endings.

I could explain why the fans are angry but I'm not able to without providing spoilers so I won't.

But yeah, the reason the fans are angry is due to the specifics of the endings. You'll see what they mean. It's more than just mindless double standards.

So? Do the fans have a legitimate complaint due to the quality of the endings or is it just the fact that the ending upset them?

I ain't looking. Buuuut, from what everyone's saying it looks like we're getting either a Bittersweet Ending [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BittersweetEnding] or a Downer Ending [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DownerEnding]. That actually makes me kinda happy really, I like having my heartstrings tugged at.

Ok, I can live with a bittersweet ending, but I don't want to look at spoilers. Could the OP just PM me saying if there is a bittersweet ending? A simple yes or no will do, his opinion.

So the title read *no spoilers* but now everyone's blabbing about it being depressing. Nice one guys...

I guess it depends what you class as depressing. If it's gonna be a case of 'you've bought and played through 3 games but it was all for nothing' then that's a bit of a kick in the nuts. But you can't go wrong with some nice heroic deaths. I dunno. Say the crew sacrifices themselves to save the Universe, that I could live with.

(FYI: I haven't read the detailed spoilers so anything above which reflects them are purely coincidental)

I'd be okay with a bittersweet ending, though. If a bunch of the galaxy is dead, but I manage to stop the Reapers, at least I won't feel like I've done everything for nothing. I would like to have a kind of happy ending where I can marry my LI, and maybe I will. Maybe it will be a wedding with a toast to all the dead crewmates. I don't want it to be sunshine and flowers, but please, I want a living Shepard who isn't totally fucked.

Apparently Renegades have no chance of surviving. WHAT.
