BioWare Reassures Gamers That Mass Effect Really Will Look Great on PS3

The version of the sci-fi RPG used for the demo was older and less polished than the final product, says BioWare's community co-ordinator.

BioWare has restated its claim that Mass Effect 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-2-Playstation-3/dp/B002I0J5YW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1295285211&sr=8-5 ] will look amazing on the PS3, after some fans expressed disappointment with the visuals in the demo. Last month BioWare said that the PS3 version of the game would be the prettiest of any platform [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106195-BioWare-Says-PS3-Mass-Effect-2-Will-Be-Better-Incites-Flame-Wars], as it used its successor's engine.

BioWare's community co-ordinator, "Evil" Chris Priestly, wrote a short preview of the game for the official PlayStation blog [http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/01/12/mass-effect-2-ps3-hits-psn-and-blu-ray-on-january-18th-more-than-a-simple-port/comment-page-2/#comment-506283]. In the comments, one reader noted that despite what BioWare had said about the graphical quality of the game on the PS3, it wasn't actually any better than the other versions. Priestly replied to the comment, saying that the demo used a two-month-old build of the game, and that BioWare had spent the last sixty days polishing the game and getting it looking great.

It seems a little strange for BioWare, having made a point about the way the game looks on the PS3, to release a demo, knowing that it didn't look as good as it could. Of course, it's quite likely that a significant number of people who grabbed the demo - if not the majority - aren't actually aware of what BioWare said.

Besides, it's not as if the graphics are the only carrot that BioWare has to dangle in front of PS3 gamers' noses. As well as looking better, the PS3 version of ME2 also includes more content than either the PC or Xbox 360 version. Besides all the Cerberus Network contain, the game will also include the premium downloadable content, Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi's Stolen Memories.

Mass Effect 2 comes out for the PS3 on January 18th.

I can't get over how fucking good this series is. Mass Effect 3 will be the trilogy of our generation. Our Star Wars.

I dunno if it can really beat the PC's graphics. The graphic enhancing mods I've seen for ME2 make it look better than freaking Crysis.

I'd say this was a cash-in to try draw in as many profits for Bioware before Mass Effect 3 releases but i'm sure someone would defend it by saying something like "It's so PS3 owners can play the whole trilogy!".

Still reeks of money grubbing to me. Great game though.

Oh, wow, it's almost January 18th already? Yeesh, the time flies. I already have the games on my PC, but it's good to see that Ps3 owners are getting some lovin' here.

I hope they polished it up a lot, because when I played the Demo there were several bad graphical glitches. They threw around the fact it was the best looking version then released an old build? Something got mixed up in their department I guess.

I'm looking forward to picking this up since I didn't play it on the 360 but liked the first, I've just been slightly put off on what I've been hearing of the things they changed. I'm sure I'll like it though and the PS3 version has made me more interested since it includes the DLC.

Also, does it include ALL the dlc or just some of it? If it includes all it's a definite buy.

Sigh.. I honestly do not see the appeal in it. At all. I played the demo of Mass Effect 2 and just wasn't impressed. The shooter aspect bored me immensely. Almost immediately. If I want a shooter, I'll play Battlefield or Halo, not an RPG.

This whole "HEY GUYS, IT'S SUPER SHINY ON THE PS3" is definitely a real dick move to the players of the Xbox 360 "original" version too, anyway.

Seriously, if you buy the first two Mass Effect's on the PS3 when you ALREADY HAVE the 360 versions, solely because the PS3 ones are OMG SHINY AND BETTER GRAFIX LOL.. I can't put it any other way. You're an idiot and I can only salute BioWare for taking all of your precious money while I'm over here saving my hard-earned dollars.

Now we just have to hope they don't make any shitty prequels where we find out that Harbinger and Saren were angsty slave teenagers.

OT: Hooray for them sending out a demo that is completely useless 60 days after it comes out?

You know what, Bioware? I used to look up to you guys. You're one of my favorite game developers of all time, and you pull a dick move like this. So tell me, how many people who own PS3s do you guys think have actually played the game before? Unless they own a 360 or a good PC, they most likely haven't. These people havent been waiting for this. Heck, I'm sure plenty of them have no idea what Mass Effect even is. This is nothing but a straight up dick-slap to all the true fans of the game. You know, the people who actually played both of them when they first came out? Congratu f-ing lations for making a new and improved version of a great game, but at the very freaking least you could release it on all platforms as a GotY edition. Instead, you completly blow of the fans in favor of the noobs who might not even buy the game because THEY DON'T F-ING CARE!

I seriously doubt this will matter.
In the grand scheme of things, who benefited more: Those who got to play when the game was new, or those who are late to the party and practically have had the game spoiled for them already?

"It's shinier!" is a very shallow means of compensation.

On the other hand, this does mean that Bioware is at least taking the port job seriously.

Nice one Bioware.

Now how about you stop pissing off your 360 fanboys, release a patch that makes our version of the game that we paid full fucking retail price for look better, fix some of the (many, many) glitches, generally make it into the better game you outright fucking admitted was being made for PS3.

That's what pisses me off. Bioware actually came out and admitted that the PS3 version would be better, and fix things that still haven't been fixed on the 360 version. If it weren't for the legions of fans who bought 1 and 2 you wouldn't even be able to release this version for the PS3, so how about throwing us a fucking bone instead of grubbing after more money like the corporate whores we were all trying to pretend you weren't for a moment.

Fuck all videogame developers, because they all suck.
Gee that sounds vaguely familiar. Now don't take this the wrong way because it is awesome that ME2 is hitting the PS3 (although they should have got 1 first) they should learn from Valve, pick a console and work with it. And if they wanna foray into the other hire a team dedicated to that system. Ps3 owners got boned on DA:O. 360 owners are getting boned by ME2. 1 perfect version is far more valuable than 2 sloppy ones.

No, its the prequels we must worry about. We must fight our urges to see how humanity stumbled upon the first relay monument as well as the First Contact War.

PS3 owners can't. They can use the interactive comic as a selling point all they want, but the 360 has a better one.

"Mass Effect 1".

Yep, there's no anti-video game lobby more potent than the gamers themselves.

They can't just patch it in, the entire game's been written in an entirely different engine. Don't even try to pull the "I PAYED FULL PRICE, I DESERVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE!" card, because you've got it a YEAR earlier. You've got your money's worth. Bioware isn't going to leave it as is after a year, THAT would be the DEFINITION of money grubbing. And don't act like you know that the PS3 edition is going to be glitch free, it's going to have its own set of fascinating glitches.

Why does no one on this site have perspective?

Just be happy that more people get to play a great game. I don't know why some people get off on being the "first fans" and love for people to be excluded. I know I'm happy for the people who haven't been able to play it yet.

Thanks for the heads up on the prequel/sequel thing. Staying up for 30 hours straight trying to write three essays at once makes you miss those small but important things. <_<

Because perspective requires more effort. That and we're gamers, it's natural for us to be bitchy if a different console/PC got a "better deal" then us. It sucks, but that's how it works.

I didn't think the game looked bad when I played the demo. It looked like pretty much like I expected.
No, my problem with the game was that I found it pretty boring and monotonous. And if I can judge you like that from your /demo/ then we have bigger fish to fry.

Also, why is it THAT hard to make my Shepard look like he didn't crawl out of the uncanny valley? Seriously...
