Her face doesn't look like Liara's, but I doubt anyone noticed.
It would have been better if it did look like her, and they turned down the boobage.

Imagine a statue of Dirty Harry with a big smile on his face with an ice cream cone in one hand, and a subpoena in the other. That statue doesn't feel like a representation of Dirty Harry.
Then my previous point still stands: the statuette is based off Liara's appearance as from LotSB and the upcoming ME3, where her design changed drastically, like I said before, from a mousy archaeologist to a hardened "information broker".

Did you check the pictures I put up? Those are within the same expansion with no lighting tricks, shopping, or anything.

Hell, Liara in ME2 didn't feel like a proper representation of Liara if you wanna use that analogy.

Why does Bioware keep pissing all over their own work?
its hardly pissing over their own work, its just a statue that did not capture the character it was trying to convey, but rather an asari with much larger breasts and cant be much older than 50. not by any means a bad statue, the detail and overall look is good (the boobs are a bit big though, they just look impractical), they just missed the character they meant to make. so with all of this negative feedback, they will probably change it.

Hopefully the Escapist can remove this from the highlighted articles at the top soon - I'd really like to go back to not caring about this.

Man, they fanserviced the hell outta her, didn't they?
I don't particularly mind it, but like everyone else I really don't see that statue as Liara.
I've always taken Liara as a modest or even introverted person. The overt sexiness of the design just doesn't fit her character. Miranda... maybe, but not Liara.

I'm not against anime-esque character designs at all, especially if they do a full line of the ME cast. This already has me curious as to how they'd design Tali, Wrex or Thane. They just need to reel back the cheesy fanservice and stay true to the characters.

I'm going to go ahead and quote what I said on the Bioware Social Network when I first saw this:

Things like this make it pretty hard to disprove the argument that for all their strength and characterization, all the mass media will ever care about when it comes to female characters is their sex appeal.
To be fair, I actually own a couple of these Bishojou statues (namely Catwoman and Wonder Woman) and I admit to being a little ashamed of that given that I usually oppose such things, but all the same I feel I need to address that to at least be at peace with myself.
They may fly in the face of what I believe in, but I still can't help but like them. I'm a complex person who is sometimes ashamed of himself.

Anyway as it stands, I don't like this. I'm not a huge Liara fan, but it is still kind of shameful to see her tarted up like this. She looks like a twelve year old girl with two giant waterballoons surgically attached to her chest. It's just ridiculous the degree of sex appeal they've shoved onto her. The original design was pretty sexualized as it was, but it's subtle compared to this.

Plus I really have an issue with the whole 'little girl face' thing she has, I mean I understand that 'Bishojou' is essentially 'pretty girl' in animation terms but jesus, she just looks like a kid. It's always been creepy to me the way people sexualize young girls, like with the 'raunchy schoolgirl outfit' and stuff in a similar vein. Plus I don't like how utterly weak and docile she looks.

That's my other problem with stuff like this, apart from taking strong female characters and reducing them to eye candy, we have to rob them of any inherent strength and make them look so soft and giggly and utterly non-threatening as well. I wouldn't mind sexualized female characters as much if they at least still came across as strong, but here she's had her image of strength and power removed from the picture.
I wouldn't be able to believe that this giggling schoolgirl with breast implants is the same woman who fought for two years against the greatest secret organization in the known galaxy and won, and although I'm not much of a fan of Liara, this still pisses me off.

But worse still, who's next? Maybe next time it'll be a female character who I am much more a fan of, like my beloved Ashley. Will Ashley be made into a teen girl fantasy with big tits and posing in such a way that suddenly makes her look like she's never held a weapon in her life? Will it be Jack next? Or Samara? Or Tali?

I admit, I'm probably overreacting here. A sexualized statue of a female character isn't SO bad and I actually am a little ashamed to admit that as bad as it made me feel if they made an Ashley one of these I would probably get it. If nothing else just for the sake of having Ashley in my collection. This isn't the worst thing that could happen to Mass Effect and no one is forcing me to look at it.

All the same, this isn't great. If nothing else though, I no longer mind Ashley's new 'sexy' design change, because now I realize it could have been so much worse.

Personally, I like it, if only because this version of Liara doesn't remind me of my sister.

Seriously, ME1 was just... weird... because of that.

They are only gauging how well the statue will sell, which is based on the number of people willing to buy it, not the number of people who don't like it.

A little too otaku for my tastes- and ordinarily I eat up just about anything Mass Effect related.

The face particularly creeps me out a bit, actually. That and the blatantly engorged bust. I'm all for different styles and interpretations of characters and different arts, but this just looks like an artist who really liked Liara but thought she'd look "cuter" with a smaller face and bigger tits.

Eh, I don't really care. It doesn't look that much like Liara because Liara doesn't have a figure like that, but what the hell. Asari are sexy, and I'd be happy to have a figurine of a hot Asari babe on my desk. Just so long as they don't fuck up Liara in-game, that's the important thing.

It's baby Liara's head on Miranda's Body!

It's really creepy for me considering Liara is considered "young" for an asari.
