This isn't anime. This is the stereotype of anime.
Even when Bioware wants to blend into an easily adaptable medium it fucks it up.

Why not make Tali a loli and up the size of Miranda's...

...On second thought, maybe this change was coming all along.

Did...? uh... Did Liara get implants?

Well, I guess we don't know that much about Asari Biology. maybe they hit puberty at around 106 and that's why her chest doubled in size.
You know if you think about it if you lived to be 1000 being 100 would make you 10
[sub]that would make for one interesting loyalty mission where you go to the Citadel to pick her up some raw cookie dough and space tampons...[/sub]
NO! You should forget that I said anything, I'm certainly going to try to forget that I said that.

Is it wrong that Bioware "sexy-tizing" the cast of the original Mass Effect makes me uncomfortable. I know that in Mass Effect 1 they only had one character model to work with but honestly... You've seen the screen shots of Ashley Right? I doubt she's the kind of person who would get plastic surgery in between Mass Effect 2 and 3. And now this Liara overhaul. I'm sorry to say it but I think that Bioware doesn't know what their doing any more, either that or they need to get the fuck out of EA's clutches.

The first time I saw this without seeing the face my exact comment was "Why the hell are the making a figure of Matriach Benezia? She's dead."

Basically sums up how I feel. Going from a low C-cup to DD-cup is pure Japan. What baffles me is why? It's not like ME is terribly popular there, being a 360/PC game.

I don't care for the bewwwwbs, that face is awful. I don't care that she's supposed to look childish, it's just awful.

I want to see the painted version of it. As she smiles in the figure but ingame I don't remember her smiling that often.

Looks like a generic Asari, kinda. Face looks much too young for a body like that. Would be nice if it resembled her even a little bit.

Seriously...

NO!

Clarification: Liara is neither a Triple-D, nor is she friggin 12 years old. The statue as it is, is a joke and does a disservice to the Mass Effect franchise as a whole. Sorry BioWare, but this is ridiculous. Get another company to redo the statue and keep it true to the actual character as opposed to creating a Manga/Anime sex-symbol figurine to go next to all the other anime-figurines with oversized breasts and child-like faces.

Can you be counted as 'bishoujo' if you're a couple of centuries old?

I'm glad I never cared for this franchise, it's too bad that they would license one of their own characters for such generic weeaboo trash. Game character figurines aren't the classiest things to begin with, but that looks embarrassing.

She looks like what I imagine an Asari baby would look like, sporting G-cup breasts and long, lanky limbs. On the other hand... booooobbbbbss...

She's young for an Asari.

I don't mind it. I mean, no, it's obviously not Liara. But it's definitely anime-inspired, and it's only a freaking statue. I don't remember reading anywhere that they're using that model for her character in game, or anywhere else except for that statue. And you'd have to be insane if you're in to women and wouldn't hit that; not only the boobs, but look at those hips! And legs! The face isn't as bad as people are saying either, and considering she's a couple centuries old I don't think we've got any issues with legalities here.

Ya, I'd definitely sex her up good. So the statue isn't our traditional Liara, but who cares? It's a damn statue, and it accomplishes what it set out to do admirably.

From now on, whenever anime is brought up in a conversation, I will use this quote. Just thought I'd let you know.

No. Just no.

I'm a fan of anime, so I can safely say this: When you try to take Western IPs and turn them into anime, 99% of the time, it ends horribly. I can think of one example where this wasn't a total bomb (Halo Legends), and I can bet that half of the people here at the Escapist will still call me out on that.

Mass Effect obviously takes its inspiration from all of the space operas, sci-fi epics, and futuristic media that's been circling around, most of which are Western properties in their origin. Hell, I can even see a bit of Star Wars in it from what I can assume to be from BioWare's forray into the adventures of the Star Wars galaxy approximately 4000 years before the Battle of Yavin.

While there are many sci-fi anime as well, Mass Effect obviously takes most of its inspiration from Western ideas and whatnot, so this just doesn't work. Especially not when you've already established the character in not one, but two highly celebrated and trafficked games. People will notice this change, and it's not, imo, one that suits the universe of ME.

I hope that they don't go along with this. If BioWare is so interested in making an anime-esque character, they should start their own anime-based IP, because I don't believe that any of the ones they've started so far would benefit at all from any type of anime reimagining.
