I've never used GOG before, anyone who can tell me if they do anything more than make the games work on modern OS's? (Like removing/altering resolution limitations? Tried playing Baldurs Gate again a few years ago but the MASSIVE border around the active screen just made me barf...)
I had the same problems getting it working best on my laptop, massive borders and all that. Solution: Bg Tutu with widescreen patch. Makes baldur's gate run on bg2's engine with all the fun that brings plus loads of additional tweaks and mods. look it up.

Yeah this was a big dick move. It's a good thing they were in such high favour with me, 'cause I'm the kind of guy to turn away from an online store with any slight. But I loved them so much it didn't even drop them down to the 'meh' zone.

Now get those servers up, I have a brand new internet to download the games on!

Also, DAT ACCENT

You know, I think that if you browse GoG's forums for a game you might find a fix, even if you didn't buy it there. Though you could find that in other gaming sites, like (ergh) GameFAQs. I don't even know if you can access the forums if you don't own the games though.

Well this does make me feel a little better. But I won't be taken so easily by games.

Unless that game is System Shock 2. Then all will be forgiven.
I wouldn't hold my breath. IMO the chances of EA releasing their back catalog are slim and none.
Which sucks 'cause I'd really like to be able to play the Wing Commander series on current systems.

Random: That is how I found tutu in the first place, a link from a link from a link and bam, easy tutu. GoG forums was/is a great place to find fixes for x64 or widescreen games outside dedicated websites.

Got Outcast running like a charm thanks to the forums.

I'm gonna get blasted I'm sure for this, but I never played Baldur's Gate. I have played Dragon Age Origins, and in terms of content it is vast.

So, could one of you Baldur's Gate Veterans give me a proper comparison in terms of content and execution between BG and DA:O?
Well...

You know the whole pause and set your orders thing with DA:O? Thats the combat system, its almost impossible to win some of the tougher fighters unless your constantly pausing to change what your party members are doing. So if you liked that tactical gameplay, baldurs gate has a much better combat system for calculating numbers and has far less of the "fight the same goddamn enemy again" sequence. Every "chapter" of the game has completely different enemies who fight in a completely different manner.

Despite this chapter game, you still have as much freedom as you would in a sandbox game, think fallout 3, a main story but plenty of other stuff to see and do before you even have to move into much of the main plot. The big difference is that the Plot itself is absolutely awesome, it contains all the party interactions of DA:O, except that the things you say and do actually matter. Party members who disagree with you dont simply have a little meter move, they will leave your party. Hence you surround yourself with like-minded individuals. Your characters are closer to real human beings than any game series I've palyed, having their own distinct personalities

Theres far more classes than DA:O but uses the AD&D rules which means your less physically manipulating individual stats and more manipulating what your character specificlly excells at (a fighter is going to the same as another fighter but fighter A specilises in using longswords while fighter B uses a mace and shield). This rule system is not for people who like JRPG style customization (not saying you wont like it, just saying its the exact opposite of that mass number of customizations).

The story is absoultely fantastic aswell, i cant say much without spoiling it but its the kind of story which takes your character on that monomyth tale with a nice twist. Its not really a complete story i feel without going into baldurs gate 2 and its expansion but more of a first book in a series kind of way. Theres definitely nice resolution but leaves even a big gaping question about the protaganist.

I could go on forever but lets just say, it does its story a lot better than DA:0

rip off, i can buy a used one from amazon for $1.55. also, the original baldurs gate is worse in conparison to its sequal, dragonage is more like the sequal.
I would put baldurs gate above dragon age any day, though baldurs gate 2 certainly is best of the three.

Stick BG tutu if you have BG2 then I recommend BGT as it fully integrates BG1 and BG2 as one single game, takes just about forever to finish it that way though.
http://www.spellholdstudios.net/readme/BGTReadme.htm

TuTu keeps the two separate - which is great for campaign mods; although unless you've done EVERYTHING in Baldurs gate I wouldn't recommend any of them.

If you don't have\can't get BG2 then the widescreen mod is your only option it'll at least move the big ugly bars out of the way. Seeing as they aren't that big pixel wise and the mod doesn't scale them they shouldn't be a problem any more.

What the f*ck has the used price of a game to do with buying it now from a retailer? besides which the only buy it now listing on ebay UK is £35.

and Amazons BG1 and ToSC twin pack is £10 so comparable to GoGs general pricing.

Yes BG1 is inferior to BG2 but when it's on the same engine (and therefore the same ruleset) it makes a nice lead in to the much wider BG2 and even without being ported across its still one of the best RPG's out there.

They seem a little preachy dont you think?

also question about gog.com, if you buy a game off them, do you get multiple downloads? or just one?

If Baldur's Gate is coming to GOG, I'm willing to bet my left nut that it won't be long before it also comes to Steam - which is hands down a better digital download service. I'll be waiting for that before I make a purchase.
How is Steam better? With GoG you get DRM-free games, that you can play at any time you want, with steam, you have to have a client running, and at times be connected to the internet to play, thanks to their godawful "offline mode". Hell, if you want the steam parts so badly, you can just run the shortcut through steam, to get all the community bollocks.

In the old version (ignoring the publicity stunt that was the last few days), you would buy the game and then download it (and any extras that come with it) as many times as you like. The good thing is that there is no DRM, so you can back up said game in whatever way you like.

Of course, I don't know how relevant this is to the new version of GOG.
