Black Widow Film In Development, Role in Avengers 2 is Big

Black Widow will have her history fleshed out in both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Avengers: Age of Ultron before she stars in her own film.

Marvel revealed the studio will further explore Black Widow's character in her own film after The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Played by Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow is one of the leads of the upcoming film Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and her arc revolves around her history as a spy.

"We start filming the next Avengers film at the end of March," Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president, said. "[Black] Widow's part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that."

Marvel has not explained what stage of development work this is, but at the moment it probably means Marvel Studios is brainstorming where to go from The Age of Ultron for Black Widow.

On Black Widow's role in The Winter Soldier, co-star Chris Evans said her arc "is coming to terms with her history - she's been a spy, and spies aren't necessarily trustworthy."

Black Widow didn't have a strong debut in Iron Man 2, but she was influential to The Avengers. After showing plenty of promise in movies without her name attached to them, it would be great to see her in a movie all about her.

Pardon me for asking, but what does a spy without superpowers exactly DO in their own movie that will be comparable to what Iron Man, Batman, Capt America, Hulk, etc have achieved?

Tackle supervillains. Without superpowers. Because she's just that awesome.

Anyway - YES. Count me in. Black Widow is one of my favourite parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and seeing a badass normal taking on super-threats is always fun.

Will they be using David Hayter's script for this? He's nuts for the Black Widow, even named his daughter Natasha after her.

Considering that he got top credit for writing the first X-Men movie, I really hope he gets to write this one as well.

Batman without the "DARKNESS! NO PARENTS!"

So on board with this.

They've handled the character of Black Widow pretty well so far (and solid casting helped that a lot).
If done well, it could be the first super hero film with a female lead that isn't awful (or mediocre).

It's about damn time that we start getting some leading ladies headlining their own comic movies. It's sort of a shame that they had to set her up with several other movies first, but I'll taker my progress where I can get it.

If we're lucky, maybe it will do well and we could possibly see the likes of Ms./Captain Marvel showing up in their own films later on. Or maybe we'll even get the chance to see characters like Jessica Drew show up in the Black Widow film since she's worked with HYDRA and SHIELD at various times (and the Avengers).

Since when does Batman have superpowers? Or is being rich enough to fund your own personal armory a superpower now?

One thing is for sure; they are gonna milk the shit outa this franchise.

I'm down for that. As longs as they keep all the good movies coming.

As someone who mostly read the Donald Duck comics, I always look forward to all the new movies. People always have lengthy discussions about the whole thing 3 months in advance and i'm always sitting there like

Well, they've been talking about this since Iron Man 2, so I'll believe it when I see it.

But, that being said, I've more faith in seeing this happen than I do a solo Wonder Woman movie...

I wonder if they're going to use this movie to give Black Widow some of the enhancements she got in the comics. In any case, very interested in finding out who is directing this.

Well, yes, kind of. Honestly, I would go less with "Batman/Iron Man don't have superpowers either" and more like "Black Widow has an interrogation superpower".

Batman's superpower is being an orphan.

Whilst I cannot argue that more Scarlett Johansson in skin tight catsuits is not a good thing I'm a bit dubious of how well a solo Black Widow movie would do. I'd rather see a movie centred around SHIELD that has BW, Nick Fury and maybe Hawkeye as the lead roles. As long as it's not as crap as Agents of SHIELD or the previous Nick Fury movie. Although if they made it more like a spy thriller than a full blown action flick I guess it would be ok.

They could always make a Black Widow, Ms Marvel, She-Hulk and Spiderwoman super group movie too. As long as there is at least one team shower scene.[/perving]

Wonder if She-Hulk, Wasp and Captain Marvel have any chance after this.

Apparently a Captain Marvel script is being written right now.

Spoiler alert: Black Widow survives the events of The Winter Soldier and apparently Avengers 2. Guess that body that Cap is holding in the trailer isn't hers, or she doesn't die from whatever happens to her.

On topic, it's about time. Please be good. Please show that female super heroes are just as interesting--even more so in my opinion--as male ones. And for the love of all that is holy, do NOT make her main driving force a love interest. Please, please, please. No Hawkeye showing up to save her from the darkness or anything like that. She can have a romance interest, but please do not make that her only focus.

Well, you know what I mean. In Avengers movie Black Widow's role wasn't really to be on-par with all the other heroes. She's someone who talks and espionage-s her way out of stuff occasionally using gadgets, more behind-the-scenes work more than anything else. She did kill some aliens in the final war...but lets be honest here, at least some part of the reason(s) behind her existence in Avengers was to tick the "female superhero!" checkbox and provide gawk-material for the dominant chunk of the audience (males).

Batman and Iron Man have been shown to be borderline unstoppable in their respective movies and they literally LOOK like they can single-handedly deal with anything.

But a skinny little hottie in a skin-tight suit punching people will never be as convincing...generally action-girl movies are either mediocre or downright awful. Maybe it will be an intelligent movie that focuses less on action and more on clever sneaky stuff, who knows.

Whatever they have in mind...if they manage to pull it off successfully, I will be downright amazed.

To be perfectly honest, I think they would be better off making a Scarlet Witch movie. Now THAT is one super-powered girl (almost overpowered actually) who can absolutely wreck shit up.

I think I've watched every single "Marvel" movies in theaters, but this one just doesn't do anything for me, guess it'll be the first one I skip.
