YES! Freakin' awesome news. I wanted a Black Widow movie since Iron Man 2. She deserves her own movie.
Yeah.

Tychus Findley summed it up pretty well here:

Sounds like a good business decision on Disney's part. Lots of people have been audibly clamoring for lady movies that aren't rom-somethings so it's probably going to do pretty well regardless of how 'good' the movie ends up being.

That being said, I never thought Black Widow was a very interesting character or that Scarlett Johannsen was a very good actress, so personally I'm kinda 'meh' on the whole deal.

At least Marvel's production plans are quite transparent: [Insert HL3 joke here]

I think Marvel has just about realized that they can do whatever the fuck they want in terms of making movies and is just running with it. Granted, Guardians of the Galaxy made that clear, but it bears repeating.

They've handled the character of Black Widow pretty well so far (and solid casting helped that a lot).
If done well, it could be the first super hero film with a female lead that isn't awful (or mediocre).
Also the idea of having Scarlett Johansson as the main lead in a movie in that vinyl body stocking is very good idea.

Just imagine how batshit crazy this is all gonna get by the time they have to fight Thanos. Heck Lady Sif from Thor is scheduled to show in S.H.I.E.L.D. soon which contrary to Bob's opinion(and I usually like his opinion) it really isn't as strong a show as say Arrow (which he sites as a terrible show). Arrow is doing what Agents should be doing. Arrow is focusing on known DC lore that has not exactly made it to main stream audiences. Giving characters like Deathstroke and Amanda Waller their moment in the sun. Agents has approximately 2 known Marvel supervillains set up and absolutely nothing else tied to the Marvel universe besides Coulson's missing memory and revival.

However I'm excited for both companies experiments. Marvel has a strong movie universe going with kind of a weak TV spin off while DC has a stumbling half and half movie universe started and a strong TV universe going. Seriously Flash is about to show up and they pretty much copied and pasted his origin story, Thawne and all, from the comics to the screen.

Spoiler alert: Black Widow survives the events of The Winter Soldier and apparently Avengers 2. Guess that body that Cap is holding in the trailer isn't hers, or she doesn't die from whatever happens to her.
Oh... I was going to say that Black Widow takes a trip to Tahiti...

OT: So, I'm wondering if this will come out before or after the Wonder Woman solo movie... Also, will this movie come with a Nick Furry and/or Hawkeye cameo... or will it hint at a Ms. Marvel and/or She-Hulk appearance?

And it better not say that HYDRA's not going to be in that particular movie... since it will come off as kinda odd, in my opinion...

Intriguing. I thought I read/heard somewhere that Scar Jo wasn't too hot on the character to begin with.

Batman without the "DARKNESS! NO PARENTS!"

So on board with this.
And hopefully without the stupidity that has been such a part of most versions of Batman in the public consciousness.

All I'm saying is where the poop is my Hawkeye & Mockingbird film? Marvel's been tossing new films out like candy and there's been neither sight nor sound of the arrowed avenger and his super-spy wife. Admittedly Whedon/Renner's portrayal of him in The Avengers set the bar so low it could limbo with dust mites, but come on. "Mr. & Mrs. Smith except with superhero/spies" practically writes itself.

Eh, not really feeling it. When I watch a superhero movie, I actually want to see superheroes: superpowers, high tech gadgets, over the top feats. Black Widow is badass for sure, but I don't see how a movie about her would really be any different than watching any other secret agent movie. Get me a She-Hulk or Ms. Marvel film and I'll be on board.

Can they get someone who actually sounds/is Russian for it? It bugs me she sound perfect American all the time. I know she's good at changing accents, but why when she's back at base or whatever, it just bugs me.

Would make me exceptionally happy if it's an "origin film" kind of, and Black Widow is actually the predominant antagonist of her own feature film, until the end when Hawkeye turns her with whatever he did to make her owe him a debt.

I don't know the comic backstory if it ties in with how the two have been portrayed so far, but i think that would make for a great premise.

This is really exciting. My mind is running wild at the moment. I would love to see a cool spy agent like Black Widow outsmart and overcome supervillains, which are technically more powerful than her. Well at least, that's her main appeal for me.
Besides, while I would like to see a Ms. Marvel Movie (I think that it would fit quite well with the Thanos storyline hinted at the end of avengers, because of the connection to Captain Marvel, who is Kree, but I don't quite know, I am not that good in the Marvel Unniverse ;-) ) and I hope, that Wasp gets a good part in the Antman Movie, wouldn't it be cool, to have some high profile female villains? Like the enchantress? Seriously, who would be a good cast for the enchantress? I almost had something, but then it slipped my mind ;-)

Pardon me for asking, but what does a spy without superpowers exactly DO in their own movie that will be comparable to what Iron Man, Batman, Capt America, Hulk, etc have achieved?
Exactly! She's not really Marvel material, since those tend to be SUPERhero movies, not "hero movies".
Just look at the final battle in Avengers, where she is pretty impotent and there's just contrived stuff to make her an asset. Spies can be CRUCIAL before a battle -you know infiltrating and exfiltrating info or assasinating a leader, but once it starts it's the big artillery where all the fun's at...

This sounds great.
Maybe we will even see a little more of Hawkeye in that movie.
Another character I like a lot, maybe it's pity due to the "underpowerdness" of the character, but I really like Hawkeye :p
