So I'm playing Dead Rising 2: Off The Record, with music blaring because trying to kill 100,000 zombies can get rather repetitive when all your hear zombies being hit.

Anyway, this Fortunate Son cover by Santana ft. Scott Stapp came on.

And I realised I actually like it more than I do the original. There's just something about it I prefer over CCR's original.

So what covers do you like more than the original?

Here's a couple more that I shall add to begin with.

My friend believes I'm an idiot for liking this more than the NIN original (he's a huge NIN fan). I mean the original is good, but Johnny Cash just makes this his own.

I prefer Fergie's voice on this than Axl Rose's on the original. Which also reminds me what a shame it is that she wastes her voice in the Black Eyed Peas.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head for me with Hurt. I'm a big fan of the original, but still, Cash made it his own.

My wife recently put me onto a recording of Chester from Linkin Park doing Rollin in the Deep by Adele, far superior if you ask me.

I know I might be lynched for suggesting that a cover can be better than the original version of this song, but I think it's better, god damn it.

Jonathan Coulton's Baby got Back.
But speaking of other music, I actually prefer Dylan's version of All Along The Watchtower.

And of course you ninja'd me too with Hurt.

Yep, Johnny Cash's hurt is not only one of my favorite covers of all time, but one of my favorite songs of all time.

Well I would add this but after seeing how badly it's used the silly Prototype 2 trailer [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmMidL8KUOE], it's a little hard to take seriously... despite how good it is...<.<

OT: I love Dinosaur Jr's cover of Just Like Heaven... they just put there own spin on it... and J always takes the chance during the solo to melt faces as well as talk about his feelings...<.<

also a really crap music video with bad 80's green screen...

Also their cover of Whenever You're Ready by the Cranberries...

Also Galaxie 500's cover of Ceremony by Joy Division/New Order...

Also, Nirvana's cover of In The Pines...

I love the Beatles, and this truly was a great song, but McCoy puts so much emotion into it, it just completely blows me away. For the purposes of not spamming the thread with Across the Universe in general, I'll also call out Evan Rachel Wood's cover of "It Won't Be Long".

Alizée rocks my world in general. I unapologetically add this to the list simply because it's the only cover she's done that I think anyone will recognize.

Freddie had an amazing voice. It's really no surprise that any song he chose to cover would come out amazing.

I'm not sure what it is, but Neil Diamond just gets stuck in my head, and I absolutely love this version of the Hollies classic.

No real comments, just beautiful.

Honorable Mentions to Blue Swede for their cover of Hooked on a Feeling [Bo-qweh7nbQ], Ewan McGregor for Your Song [REGzrwMj_N4], and REM for their cover of Love Is All Around [sBI20YkvkOQ], as I couldn't possibly choose between those versions and the original.

The first one that comes to my mind is Unleashed's cover of Venom's Countess Bathory. I don't know why, it just sounds more energetic and intense.

Original

Cover

The original is still a classic though, but that might be a little obvious.

EDIT: Oh, and then there is a humorous cover of Macarena by Brujeria called Marijuana. I prefer it.

I thought this was the original for a while, and it is one of the best.

I have some more:

I think better than the Elvis version.

Genesis original, heavier cover, both good.

Say what you will about Nickelback, at least have good songs.

And finally

I don't know why, it just is in my opinion.

The Piano Guys version of Paradise, originally made by Coldplay. I personally think it is amazing.

Also any of their other songs that they do are amazing as well, you should check them out.

How has no-one mentioned the obvious choice here - Muse, voted the number one cover of all time.

Rufus Wainwright did my personal favourite version of Hallelujah, though there's a strong argument for both Jeff Buckley and Leonard Cohen's versions.

I prefer the recent cover of Wherever You Will Go to the Calling's original too.

I like "deadrising 2 off the record" better than the second one. I like Halo 2's cover better than the first. I would go into Iron Maiden, but all their covers were awesome.
