I'm sorry but why are you angry at them and not yourself? If I'm mistaken about this I apologize but I'm imagining your account was hacked through some fault of your own such as playing on a non-secure system or responding to a phishing attempt.

I've never had an account, WoW or any other hacked (except my PSN, which happened to every single user so I don't count that) because I make sure the systems I play on are secure and I have common sense enough to know when someone is trying to phish for my account information.
Your right, I am probably lashing out in anger, I haven't seen any sort of IP blocker option and my password was "two random words + my social security number + my birthday" so if that's not enough, we're all screwed, my password was 33 characters long.
Again, if I'm mistaken I apologize. But that still doesn't mean you couldn't have a keylogger on your system, in which case it wouldn't matter if your password was 100 characters long.

Keep in mind that one of the most common ways the badguys get your password is by sending you an email saying your account has been hacked 'click here' to go to our website.

Either way that sucks. Mine got hacked once. All they did was go into like Org and advertise porn sites. I had no idea how, basically it was because it was inactive for so long I think.

It's very unlikely it got broken by guessing it then - which means either your system isn't secure, you fell victim to a phishing attack, or your hacker is someone you know ^^

If you have an Android or Iphone there's no reason not to have an authenticator, they're very secure and free on those systems. There are free windows ports too but I'd rather just buy a real one than rely on a port.

Or he's full of it, who seriously uses a 33 character password? Certainly possible, but it's such an odd thing to that it makes me even more likely to assume one of the things you mentioned is the case. Doesn't exactly suggest sensible behaviour.

Yes, that's right - this is the sixth time now I've gotten an email saying that mt password reset has been sent - I went to the World of Warcraft website to see and it turns out that the account I was on that I stopped playing WoW with 2 years ago now has gained 2 levels on my Paladin, 55 levels on my Black Knight and created a troll hunter when I only ever played Alliance.

The only reason I was able to discover my account was hacked? Because I tried to play a game of Starcraft II and couldn't log on.

So basically for months now somebody has been playing WoW for free using my account information.

This makes me very angry at Blizzard for allowing this to happen - would they not have the ability to detect when my account is being accessed from another city/state/country?

Steam doesn't let me log on to with with another computer in my own house and yet Battle.Net will allow a hacker to use my account for months.
Um, what? You're paying for a game that you haven't played in forever? You can't play wow without paying for it. So they weren't just playing WoW for free.

You probably have a keylogger on your computer, do a virus scan.
Also, blaming blizzard for the hack is like blaming the door company for that break-in because you let the door open.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Blizzard.
And you're not 'hacked' per se; you've got a keylogger on your computer.
They don't need to hack someone when they get the password from them.
And why is it Blizzard's responsibility to keep track of where your account is accessed from?
Also, you really should get an account verification code thingy.
They're as cheap as free if you've got a cellphone that's compatible with the app.

No, I haven't been paying a subscription for the game, I quit the day Lich King launched (bought it, rolled a DK, decided this wasn't going to renew my interest and then stopped playing)

Someone just pointed out that DK's starts at lvl 55, so I was really mistaken, the account only has a lvl 2 Troll Hunter and a level 15 Rogue that aren't mine, so luckily it wasn't played for years, my paladin was been respec'd to Ret and I got a new Hammer weapon, so....thank you hacker?

Wait what....

You used your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER in your password??? AND add to that your birthday????

What the hell??

So not only did you get phished or keylogged.. but said "hackers" also know your Social security and birthday??

I am hoping for your own sake you are trolling now.

This has to be a troll. As I said above, He said he quit WoW, which means he obviously stopped paying for it (Unless he's THAT retarded). A "hacker" is not going to pay to play on someone else's account. So there's no way ANYONE played WoW on his account, because it is not paid for.

You do realise that Death Knights (Not Black Knights) start at level 55, right?
Just realized that ^^ SO the hacker only gained 2 levels on my Paladin and got me a new Hammer...and respecced me to Retribution

This is exactly what I am saying, the exact format of my password was as follows: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX#############

So, defense mode =

1) 33 character password with letters and numbers
2) Antivirus/spam/spyware up-to-date
3) Firewall
4) No Keyloggers
5) Windows completely updated
6) WEP2 Encrypted network

.....if that's not enough then what is.

All a hacker has to do is plug in my email and click a button, I am a Computer Programmer, I know how computers work, "Hacking" is usually little more than downloading a free application on the internet and supplying an email address for it to then go brute force it's way into your private information.

This.
Seriously, get it. It solves all these silly problems straight away.

EDIT: I see in one of your posts that you have, in fact, signed up for that now. I'm almost certain that this solves all your problems, and have fun playing it in future if you want to. :)

Look you could play from a friends place. Been to another town and playued from a cyber caffee. WoW players do that. Dont want to miss a raid night or whatever.

You actually need to report this stuff in order to be safe. I didnt see anything about you reporting.
And you said you didnt play for 2 years? WHy are you still paying for wow?

Yeah... if you have keyloggers and whoever is doing this realizes you have your SSN and Birthday number in your password you are screwed on so many levels... Anyways, yes, since you still play a Blizzard game invest in an authenticator. It should put a stop to the problem. Also the authenticator is free.
