I remember reading somewhere that there will be a "use based skill set", somewhere between wow and oblivion maybe?

I'm already playing D2 with all the nagging issues fixed. It's called Torchlight, and it doesn't have its head up its own ass with self-importance!
It has such awesome multiplayer too!

I have a library shelves for every video game I ever owned and buy. I love the new battle.net, I have my original Starcraft and Diablo 2 Keys, never bought the expansions though. My original Starcraft key unlocked the anthology, but I had to buy the Lords of the Destruction to complete my Blizzard collection. I been planning to go back and replay Diablo 2 before 3 comes out.

Blizzard said they aren't, and would never have a system like Oblivion or anything like it.

Damn I hope noone reads your post and flies off the handle like most D3 threads I read.

Hell, main reason they are playing it still is for the ladders, and the fact you have to play on the ladders just to get some gear. And if my memory serves, every reset of the ladder means you need a new character.

That, and nightmare mode can be hell on you.

And I can't play it sadly, lost the disk and such for D2, still have the expansion... and if i 'pirated' it, people would wag fingers, and id not be allowed onto B.net, which is no fun either...
If you still have the cd-key, you can just add that to your b.net account and you can get the game there.

I hope they stop the areas randomising after loading up the game next session. Makes co-op game take much longer than they should.

I think the decision to keep the game at about the same length is a really good one! I think Diablo 2 was pretty well paced - except maybe that act 1 could be shorter or more varied because damn it was ugly. Diablo 2 was long enough to feel epic, but any longer and it would be difficult to play through all at once (for a newbie or somebody with middling experience at least). It did in fact take a few days to run through the campaign if you were playing a couple of hours a night, and that's just about right. Games *can* be too long: look at deus ex!

Yeah, I notice you left the part about head-up-the-ass self-importance alone. I personally don't give a shit about multiplayer, but if you do, you might want to revisit your post in about 6-8 months: http://www.torchlight2game.com/

Diablo II's story felt kinda epic so i hope they can keep that feeling. I know its not much but it was presented nicely and i was too young to be jaded about cliches. I don't agree that players only want to smash monsters, at least i want the complete experience, i can smash monsters in dozens of other games if i wanted to. Optional side quests sound nice, but at the same time, i don't want to feel like I'm distracted from the main goal and that I'm doing something irrelevant to the grand scheme of things in the game. So lets hope they can figure out how to handle that too. Otherwise i wouldn't be too keen on spending 60 euros on it.

Im happy with my Sacred 2, I stoped caring about Diabo 2 when I realised that you can reach level 80 or so in 3 daya just by doing Baal runs and then was endgame content about nothing but collecting random items. Unless Diablo 3 is gonna MUCH better, Im probably not buying it.
Same here. Screw random dungeons, Sacred and Sacred 2 are probably the best HnS RPGs ever made. And Manaless skill/spell system FTW. The HnS game system has evolved so far past what Diablo started that I don't think that Diablo can keep up, especially since most of the original people aren't working for Blizzard anymore.

Now if only I could get Sacred 2 to run longer than 5 minutes before crashing. It's a crying shame the devs went belly up when they made this masterpiece.

I read it in an interview somewhere...maybe they've changed course again? probably...
Anyways, I don't worry too much about trolls, I just say "troll" to myself and move on.
D'you know why fans flip out over their favorite games? because video games are a part of human culture (the half of society that helps program us humans), and thus anything that disagrees or demeans what they see as "their game" is an attack on their personal programming.
Crazy huh? but we all do it with something.

Sadly, I've not heard good things about Diablo III yet. I'm hoping that what I've heard will improve, but most people say the demos they've experienced are very bland, and that games like Torchlight 2 are the -real- hack-and-slash, sword-and-sorcery, dungeon-crawling epic we should be looking forward to.

I don't know what to do. @_@
I really hope they're just hatin' or the demo is just portraying the game badly.

Because Diablo 3 and possibly Dungeon Siege 3 are the only hack-and-slashy games that I've got to look forward to at the moment. Then again the only hack-and-slashy games that are coming out in the future that I know of are DS 3, D3 and Torchlight 2.

(Not that interested in Torchlight 2, the first Torchlight was just a big meh for me due to lack of exploration and adventure IMHO.)

Oh I'm well aware of that, I meant people going off about stuff that isn't happening, like in most D3 threads. And for the record it was never something said by Blizzard, they announced they were trying out new ways of gaining skills/whatever and some random thought it might be an Oblivion style thing which of course totally exploded that thread.

I'm just going to mention that all 5 classes in D3 have their own separate and exclusive resource system for abilities, only 1 of which is mana.
