Really happy this game was successful, I'd like to see more of it's ilk but in different themes/settings.

I'd be thrilled if they went this direction so long as they didnt put too much pressure on the developers. The delight I had playing Blood Dragon was largely due to the fact it seemed like it was a game a group of people just really fancied making, not like most games at the moment which seem to be mostly designed by focus groups and representatives from Beige and Grey warehouse.
If we get a bunch of little games that are a little bit mental I'll be well happy. I accept they probably wont all be my cup of tea, but it'd be a trend i'd be pleased to see.

Wait, what? Possible? I don't know about the rest of the world, but here in Hungary, If you pop down to MediaMarkt, you can get a retail version of Blood Dragon. I was rather surprised when I saw it sitting there on the shelf, but there it is. How does the company's CEO not know about this?

I know this is hungarian but if you scroll down to the table with the green ticks showing it's specifications it says it's on a DVD, so it's not even like those skyrim DLC's were where you buy a whole and proper DVD case and there is only an activation code in there.

It's a damn good idea, I guess. Never forget though, that this is the same company who apparently no longer makes any games they can't make into franchises. Their intentions are purely business related, but at least this time something awesome may come of it.

Wake up Microsoft! EA!Activision! Ubisoft (Hey, you're no more exempt)!
Y'know stranger,

around here, EA is a dirty word we don't like to use, and people get tarred and feathered for using it. Just a friendly heads up.

In other news that no one gives half a damn about: EA shuts down Battleforge, after sabotaging Phenomic for at least three years straight and closed it down in July 2013, repeatedly stating that Battleforge was 'safe', even though they treated it like a despised and much maligned step child kept in the basement.

Phenomic was founded in 1997, borged up by EA in 2006 and 60 souls strong at the time EA pulled the plug.

It was a great game made from a great game. Just hope they can do the same with mediocre games.

Awesome, really sometimes the game industry needs to light up a little and blood dragon was just what it needed. Also agai5nst a good price. I mean $15 for about 5-8 hours of gameplay. Yeah that is cool! Definitely since it had dragons that shoot lasers out of their eyes.

Of course this being a hit doesn't means that every $15 side game people will make out of big IP will be as good or succesfull. EA I am looking at you... I know you have a few pretty darn good franchises but don't think you can cheap out and make a Dragon Age Small Game and sell it for $60. Oh you say how about for $30... you still didn't get the message!

I just hope that blooddragon won't be just.. a harbringer of allot of bad ideas. Yes blooddragon was awesome, yes done well a great game can lead to a great smaller side game.. a fun 5-8 hour experience.

captcha: kitty kat MEW?

The problem is EA, I mean the problem is when big companies think that every franchise can duplicate this.

It would be good if more devs tried stuff like this, EA could use the engine and assets from something like Deadspace 3 and make an actual survival horror game where you only have a crappy pistol and need to use tools and problem solving to survive.

Less risk which should appeal to these risk averse publishers and if the price is right it could do well.

Mini-triple A, you mean AA or just A? You know, like those good movies that are more niche and are made on a smaller budget but are often more enjoyable because theres love put into them instead of just sacks of cash?

If Ubisoft is planning more of them then I 100% support this and plan to get more in future, finally a major publisher learns good lessons :)

My guess it'll be released just shortly after Half Life 3.

The last THQ published WWE game was still using assets from last gen. I'm not sure if this is a record, but man.

Pretty much this. I'd much rather play a tighter, more self-contained experience that knows what it is, what it wants and how to get it, than your average yearly crop of Sequel Farm producers. Blood Dragon was awesome while it lasted and it didn't overstay its welcome - which in turn means I'm more likely to play it again.

The flipside is pretty treacherous. Take Skyrim, for instance. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours, and although the whole thing is very artfully put together, it's hard to ever feel a sense of closure.

The thing is, I kinda need closure, at some point, so I can intellectually and emotionally "digest" my experience with a given title.

I like this route. Escpecially if we get more variety in games, protagonists, and so forth because of it.

Its a code that can be used online. Its not a disk which is what the CEO means.

Actually, more like aaa.

This is good news. Means unique and fun concepts can be made in to reasonable DLCs rather than padding them with subpar content in order to justify a $60 price tag.

No he means aaa.

I think.

OT: Good, Blood Dragon is crazy good times and I would like to see more of this way of doing things, another similar foray of weirdness was sniper elite nazi zombie army, though i am disappoint that is getting a sequel before getting a truw SE3 with a better open world and decent stealth mechanics.

Yeah, but first you need a good base to work off of. A good game engine, solid mechanics, etc., which is what Far Cry 3 had, before you can make a mini triple-A title. So they haven't exactly found a gold mine yet.

If the assets from one game are reworked to make 2-3 unique game releases, the gigantic out of control budgets might remain viable for a bit longer... go figure.
Except, well... Have you seen how much the Assassin's Creed 2 sequels use assets from the earlier games? I'm for it, but damnit, if I've got most of the assets used for it already, then offer me a discount for the game that reuses those assets. GSC (creators of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series) did this with Call of Pripyat with the "Loyalty Purchase", which was a discount to owners of previous games, and it did use several of the assets from Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky. Do something like that and you'll see what real loyalty is, Ubisoft.
Er, but they've already started doing that, with Blood Dragon and CoJ: Gunslinger. In fact, this entire article is a declaration of their commitment to that new direction of cheaper, quick-turnaround titles that reuse the engine and art assets of a major AAA release.
