Bloodstained For Wii U Canceled in Favor of Nintendo Switch

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, spiritual successor to Castlevania from Koji "IGA" Igarashi, will no longer be released for the Wii U.

Creator Koji "IGA" Igarashi has announced that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night spiritual successor Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will now be released for the Nintendo Switch - however, development for the previously announced Wii U version has been canceled.

"During our Kickstarter campaign, the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but the situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch," Igarashi wrote in an update on the game's Kickstarter page [https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/iga/bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night/posts/1818045]. "This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch."

"We are very sorry that it has come to this after all your support, but we hope you will understand. We would like to respond by preparing options for our backers, such as moving your pledge to another version or requesting a refund if you don't want any other version."

Bloodstained hit Kickstarter in 2015, and was fully funded within six days of the campaign going live, ultimately raising more than $5.5 million from over 64,000 backers. The game is expected to be released in the first half of 2018.

Only surprise is it took them this long seeing as Playtonic cancelled the Wii U version of Yooka-Laylee months ago

The fact they stopped production on the WiiU itself is a good reason for them to cancel that version. I'm sure that they have a count of those that ordered that version, and found it lacking. Otherwise they'd have many angry fans on their hands. Since that's not the case I don't see much problem with this move. I was one of the many that ran to fund Bloodstained and am very happy with my investment. After the demo that came out my desire for this game was/is magnified. Thankfully their are plenty of games coming out to divert my attention. These last few months alone 4 new titles have me wrapped around their finger with Persona 5 just around the corner.
