Don't name why the spoiler would ruin it, just name a pece of media where the spoiler would ruin it for someone that hasn't read/watched/played it.

Here are some of my Examples.

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. The Usual Suspects (Yes, I know, Kevin SPacy, there are other good actors in it)
3. Mystery of Cove: Fires of Innovation (Book)
4. Alien: Harvest (Book)

Wouldn't that be most pieces of fiction?

If ruining a plot twist doesn't affect much, then it apparently wasn't much of a plot twist then.

When you think about it. The Story of Jesus is the most ultimate spoiled story because you see that image of the man crucified everywhere.

Spoiler: Jesus gets off the cross three days later and ascends into Heaven.

Pretty funny hearing you say that after doing the exact same thing with ESB, immediately after the OP told you not to. Didn't even use a spoiler box- it's like you're actively trying to be the worst kind of poster in the world.

Honestly, anything Game of Thrones. I stopped caring partially because within a day of an episode airing the Internet will start putting spoilers in the fucking headlines about characters dying and people getting raped. Because apparently everyone watches episodes on the night they air. That and the fact the writing quality has dropped like a rock in the last few seasons. I'll wait for the books to finish.

But yeah, at this point everyone knows about the Thanos Snap because spoilers are dead apparently.

I apologize then. I just thought ESB was the exception because honsently....who does not know the famous "I am your father" line?

It pretty much became basic human culture. And the OP says he was already spoiled?

Is it really still possible to watch Empire Strikes Back without knowing the twist? Just like I imagine it's very hard to watch Citizen Kane without knowing what Rosebud is or watching Planet of the Apes without knowing what the titular planet is or watching/reading Harry Potter 6 without knowing what happens to Dumbledore.

Otherwise, I guess Silent Hill 2 is a game that's worse if you already know the twist. Generally speaking though... I never minded spoilers much. A movie or a game that's good will be good, even if you already know the twist.

Has everybody who will watch the movie done so by this moment in time? No. Has everyone who will watch it even been born yet? No.

There will always be new people who haven't seen something. Always. Don't be that insufferable prick that assumes the ephemeral 'everybody' has already seen something. Because it will never be the case.

(Not saying you're an insufferable prick. Just saying don't be that insufferable prick. Nobody wants to be an insufferable prick)

I can't help but think of characters like House and think "actually, being a prick can be pretty fun if you pull it off right."

There's one or two parts in the Darth and Droids comic that probably would, but I can't point to which ones without spoiling.

Actually, could be lots, but I've only gotten up to the beginning of the Rogue One stuff.

I actually managed to avoid knowing that until it was deliberately spoiled in this forum...I think last year?

The thing with Silent Hill 2 is that by its very nature it spoils itself. All you have to know is 'grieving husband looking for dead wife in Silent Hill'. Gee, I wonder who killed her?

I think what he means is that the Empire twist has become so ingrained with pop culture that it's nearly impossible to watch it blind without having been exposed to it through osmosis.

The older I've got, the less I've cared about spoilers. In fact, at some point probably about 5-10 years ago I even started occasionally reading the end of a book after I'd got about a third of the way through.

I'm not sure why I started doing this. Is it a habit from reading scientific papers? You flick through the abstract, intro, then go to the conclusions and read the rest of the paper (i.e. the methods, results and discussion) only if you feel the need the extra detail. I wonder if it's from reading too many predictable stories (peasant who's actually king blah magic sword blah dark lord blah), yeah, you already know the end - like ancient Greek tragedy, where everyone in the audience knew the story and its end, it was just about how that version got there.

I'm not sure I've ever really cared about spoilers. If I have, I stopped at some point, though. Knowing what's going to happen doesn't diminish the impact of a story for me. I guess I'm just not terribly impressed by surprise and suspense is either independent of knowing what will happen or isn't important to me. I guess as someone who writes things it's really present for me that what I'm looking at when I'm reading or watching fiction is a collection of choices made by someone (or a group of people) and that the paths not taken are potentially just as or more interesting to consider. So while some people might take pleasure from suspense, I can derive satisfaction from imagining what didn't happen (and the possibility that it could have) even while I know what did happen.

That being said, a first viewing is more likely to provoke laughter at particularly clever plot twists.

I know what he means. but if, as you say, it's nearly impossible to watch it blind, then that means it's still possible. And therefore, don't be a spoiling prick.
