Bootleg Vietnamese Pokemon Brings the Volcano Bakemeat

This horribly-translated Pokemon bootleg makes "All Your Base" look downright intelligible.

When you get down to it, there's no question that translation is a tricky business at the best of times, particularly when going between languages that have nothing to do with each other - English and French might have some similarities, but English and Japanese? Not a chance.

Shoddy translation gives us such gems as Zero Wing's immortal Star War: Episode III: The Backstroke of the West [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qItugh-fFgg]. It also gives us the video you see here to the right - supposedly, a bootleg version of Pokemon Crystal hailing from Vietnam.

While there's no way to tell if this actually came from Vietnam or not, it's certainly Pokemon Crystal, and it's certainly a bootleg. The translation, to put it mildly, is somewhat lacking - it calls the titular Pokemon "Elf" and just goes downhill from there.

It's also way funnier than it perhaps ought to be, especially when you spend half the time trying to figure our what they're actually trying to say.

I still don't know what "Volcano Bakemeat" is, but damned if I don't want to find out. Anyone have their (actual) copy of Pokemon Crystal on them?

Edit: According to forumgoer Moontouched-Moogle's copy of Pokemon Crystal, "Volcano Bakemeat" is meant to be "Cinnabar Volcano Burger." That's much less entertaining.

I guess the question is if Google translate would have done a better job with translating the game.

I'm fairly sure that "Volcano Bakemeat" is "Cinnabar Island Burger", or something to that effect.

Also, this translation is hilarious.

...Omg the translation is so bad that it is funny. And I just hade to look at the Star Wars one and I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

Never have I heard such bad translation. Sometimes it even contradicts itself, translating a word two different ways. Enjoyable to listen to though. Might get one myself. Scraah!

Wow, that was absolutely hilarious!

Also, according to my copy of Crystal, the stove text should read:
"Mom's specialty! CINNABAR VOLCANO BURGER!"

OT: That was just terrible.
EGGIE received Drug.

BAG FUCK!

Only two men to deal with this!

That's just disturbing. I never thought I'd see something translated that poorly.

Ah, pirated games are so funny. Oak being called an Elf Monster made my day. There's a youtube user I subscribe to who specialises in showing obscure pirate games, especially bad pokemon translations.

Absolutely priceless, and now I must make it my life's goal to find or create Volcano Bakemeat.
