Borderlands vehicles suck.

I love Borderlands.

It's colourful, it's fun and the loot system is inspired.

But goddamn do I hate those vehicles.

I'm currently playing through the secret armoury DLC with a level 54 Lilith, and the frustration is getting pretty bad.

Most of this DLC is spent going down narrow highways and encountering Crimson Lancer tanks that destroy your truck in three or four hits.

There is no room to circle strafe or dodge sideways(the awkward controls don't allow for that anyway) and any contact made means you fly all over the place as for some reason the game decides you are by far the lightest, flimsiest thing on the road, getting knocked all over the place.

Has anyone actually worked out a decent tactic for vehicle combat in this game?

When you hit about 50% shields left on your car, GTFO! Especially on your 2nd playthrough. Just put on the thrusters and run. Are you playing on the PC or Console version? they're both fairly different and console's easier imo.

Console, and that's pretty much what I've had to do for every single encounter as I'm fighting level 53 enemies on playthrough 2 who can destroy my shoddy little truck with a couple of hits.

Easy, don't fight the lancer vehicles. Their AI isn't aggressive, so you can just drive pass them without being shot at. Also don't shoot the annoying flying drones, while passing close to the Lancers. I just ignore everything on the road until it's time to walk. Early on, there are a lot of roadblocks, but as you complete missions, they will disappear, so you can drive on easily.
Never attempt to fight "drifters" out of vehicles. Their attacks instarape. Keep your distance and spam rockets, preferably use a "monster".

The vehicles in that game are ridiculous. They go from being unstoppable battering rams in the first 15 levels to being made out of paper mache that's on fire anytime after that. Seriously, I spend half the drive time nowadays spamming the bail button and yelling at Mordecai to GTFO! I swear walking is safer sometimes.

Can't help you man, unless you're on PS3, and want help with Questing? I'm level 50 with some decent weapons. I could help you finish your second playthrough if need be.
I'm guessing you're on the 360 version though. I just get that feeling.

Fraid so! I finished playthrough 2 solo, I'm fine with the FPS gameplay but the vehicles screw me pretty bad and I hate running away in games.

I really hope they fix it in the sequel.

Nice tip on the drifters. Those things are fugly!

It's still a great DLC though (when you're on foot)
