Undoubtedly there are plenty of reasons that one can dislike the film without being a sexist, and there were insintuations that if you didn't like it, you WERE sexist (see the backlash against James Rolfe for instance).
However, the cast absolutely received sexist abuse, and in the case of Leslie Jones, racist as well. Even if Ghostbusters 2016 was the worst film in the history of ever, nothing justifies the abuse of cast and crew under any circumstances. NOTHING. It's part of why I dislike RLM's reviews of the Star Wars prequels because while the prequels have plenty of flaws, they're so mean-spirited against Lucas. Okay, sure, he made a flawed trilogy, he didn't "rape your childhood" you twats. Basically, "attack the product, not the person" is my mantra.
As for Kylie and X-Treme Ghostbusters, that made me even more confused when people were arguing about the series being rebooted/retconned. I'm not a big Ghostbusters fan, but even I'm aware that the series effectively split after the first film, one branch going into cartoons (Ghostbusters, then Extreme Ghostbusters), and another going to Ghostbusters 2 and then, the videogame. So, what, a third timeline is too much?
