Being that my local Krogers has a world foods section, I decided today that I would attempt to partake at Yahtzee's approval of the infamous Branston Pickle. Browsing through the world foods section, I finally made it to the English Foods section which is situated right next to the Irish foods section. I was surprised to find that most of the English Foods section consisted of various chop sauces and custards as well as scones and biscuits of odd varieties. It really is amazing the amount of heart devastating foods the English choose to partake of, but as an American, I'll not lecture others on fatty foods.
I did finally locate the Branston Pickle and promptly bought a jar which wasn't cheap at $5.86 a pop. I also bought a bottle of this strange lemon drink and a bottle of chop sauce. (The British must love their meat with a lot of vinegar.) I have to admit that the taste was very new as it reminded me of pickles, brown sugar and soy sauce a bit. It was kind of the consistency and appearance you would get if you mixed pickle relish, cubed carrots and molasses together and let it sit for a month or so. All in all I would probably buy it again as it seems like a definite sandwich fun item, but it would be better if the import tax tagged on wasn't sky high.
