I get the feeling what this really is is del Toro's game "Insane" with Silent Hill slapped on the cover. Looks...okay, but considering how Kojima has been handling things lately I don't think this'll work all the way.

If nothing else, it will definitely be... interesting.

It'd probably be better if they just made a new thing though.

So, for everyone else's sake, my anti-virus popped up like 3 times screaming get the fuck out when I clicked on the OP's link. Malware or some shenanigans if Avast is believed.

So, back to the OP, i'm about a 8 or something on the hype scale if it doesn't be all bloated and boring like MGS4's silliness was. I'm kinda down for it really, it may actually groove into how he does things.

I don't follow the rumor mill, so this is indeed news to me. And, I don't know what to think. Silent Hill of old does not seem to line up with this, however, I don't think they can do any damage to the brand at this point, and the results could be really interesting, and fun. I really want to see what this comes out like at the very least, I am interested, so very interested.

I'm excited about Guillermo Del Toro, but I wonder what Hideo Kojima would bring to the table.

Also, Kojima's wikipedia page currently lists the new Silent Hill as an upcoming entry in the Metal Gear series.
Well then we might have the answer about the combat already... the Kojima version will involve you taking on the role of a pilot driving the new US manufacture Metal Gear between bases through back roads to avoid traffic, suddenly a fog wells up and you see the sign "Welcome To Silent Hill".... the very first survival horror, mecha-battle hybrid game, can your giant, bipedal, nuclear armed war machine handle a few freaky nurses with syringes? What happens when you just decide "F@ck this" and drop a bunch of weapons of mass destruction on the town (or did you already do this, hence all the broken roads and such seen reflected in other games... oooh mind trippy). The best part... the entire game can be done with little interaction from the player, it can be nothing but an animated movie in the spirit of "Bambi Meets Godzilla" except with the punchline drawn out into 180 minutes of slamming mecha rampage action. In a clever twist, the pilot you play will have multiple personalities... Zack was very impressed by this reveal... and will monologue with himself constantly about fringe science and pseudo-philosophical topics, hearing the other side of the conversation in his head, while he puffs on LSD-cut Cannibis.... which will surprisingly make him more coherent as the "game" moves on. Basically it's Kojima's dream game, Del Toro is just there to help in depicting what the already messed up Silent Hill Creatures look like when a whacked out druggie mecha-pilot is having a bad trip at the same time. :)

I for one am excited about "Metal Gear: Silent Hill"... let's hope that's not a Wikipedia error and I'm actually putting the pieces together correctly.

You know actually, if they did this they could do survival horror in reverse as a sequel, just imagine a game where a Metal Gear rampages through Silent Hill and demolishes all of the poor psychological-demon-monsters and their homes... and you have to play the last psycho-nurse trying to help rebuild the place into a hellish pit of despair and misery before a military clean up crew arrives and ruins it forever... Just imagine having to lurch around with intentionally shoddy controls (perhaps similar to a physics simulator) while dodging the first military scouts who are from the "new breed" of horror protagonists that kill everything on sight... can we feel sorry for the poor monster seeing what it's likely to meet some dude in a "horror game" armed with laser shotgun that shoots sub-tactical nukes with it's alt fire mode? :)

I thought this as well. Still hyped.

Phil Fish's tweets about this whole thing have been absolutely classic.

I laughed harder on that last tweet that I thought I would...

OT: Put me up for an 8.5 on this one... The names, alone, get me pumped up for this, however given Silent Hill's status thus far, it causes me to not fully give this a 10, let alone a 9, on the hype machine...

With that said, I'll keep this in mind as more news develops... Who knows? I might actually want to play this one instead of just noticing its existence like most of the other Silent Hill games outside of the ones in that "HD collection"...

It's a lost cause. People haaaaaated Silent Hill 2 when it came out ("Who's this schmuck? What happened to Harry? Why is everything less intense? Why is the combat system so crap?"), people haaaaated Silent Hill 3 when it came out ("Why are we back on this plotline when we could be doing random people with diverse backstories? Why is the atmosphere so overly violent? Why is the combat more of a focus than last time? Why are we going to all the same places as the first games?"), people haaaaaaated Silent Hill 4 when it came out ("Why are we following this guy who we don't know? Why are we not even in Silent Hill? Who are these wackos? Why is the combat so limited again?"), etc etc, and people will haaaaaate whatever Kojima puts out, because the Silent Hill fanbase is comprised of two equally sized and utterly opposed groups who like what the other hates, because the first two games drew two completely different types of fans.

With that in mind... I hope and pray he goes for the broke on this one and makes the game he wants to make. It's doomed to condemnation no matter what he puts out, he may as well make something he's passionate about.

As a fan of the first 3 Silent Hill games I am cautiously optimistic; I'll just have to wait for more details. If nothing else, I am curious as to how Kojima and Del Toro would gel for this iteration of Silent Hill.

I wonder how Yahtzee feels about this, considering his views on Kojima and Silent Hill. Perhaps we'll hear more on his Drown Out series...maybe???

I think I'll put myself down as a 6, assuming the scale is 1 = completely opposed, 5 = neutral, and 10 = WHERE'S THE PREORDER BUTTON?!

I'm interested, but not super excited about it. I quite enjoyed the first three Silent Hill games, but it's a series that has pretty consistently disappointed me since then. Attaching a bunch of big names to a project doesn't necessarily guarantee a successful result.

Looks pretty cool, hope the story is told seriously though. Kojima needs to be moderated and hopefully del toro can do that. Norman reedus is a great actor as well, so here's hoping its a great game. Personally, shattered memories, downpour, and 2 are my top 3 right now and not because they scared me. Those nerves died as a child watching slasher films. What they did do is emotionally invest me in the characters and story, offer a deep exploration of psychology, and creep me out with the atmosphere and symbolism.
